It so hard for me to take the "woman who dresses masculine" trope seriously in fantasy/historical settings. Like logically i know its not a normal everyday occurrence for a lady to wear pants but my eyes see the outfit and all i see is a completely normal outfit id wear or see any woman wearing. I honestly cant remember the last time i saw someone in a skirt in real life

Same thing with "girl gets bullied for having un-feminine interests". Girl wants to play baseball instead of softball? Okay. Some might consider it a little weird but its not really notable. Girl wants to do sword fighting/a type of fighting? Everyone thinks thats either so cool or a bit nerdy. I didnt know fencing (sword fighting) was a "boy" thing until i showed up and there was only one other girl there. I went to a boxing class and almost everyone was girl. Math or science? Yeah theres more men then women but its not a unfeminine thing. Girl doesnt want to wear makeup? As a adult? Thats literally such a normal thing, Im the only one in my friend group who wears makeup regularly

Actually why im on the topic of arranged royal marriage tropes in fantasy books i have to say I've never come across one that was like a human marrying a different race (elf, fairy, mermaid, etc) to solidify a alliance (i can see the humans like allying with this race because they're going to war with them against someone else)

Like talk about culture shock

i havent read a real non-school mandated book in 5 years bc fanfiction exists so im searching up popular fantasy books right? And so many of them are summarized by "young Princess is betrothed to a man twice her age she never met. How will she take command of her own destiny?" And like i had two reactions to that 1) none of these are my thing at all but I've never actually read one so maybe i should give it a try 2) but what if he was hot?

Like tell me you cant see a 17-22 year old princess (or any woman) being like "i cant believe my parents are doing this to me! Hes older than me! They're just marrying me off and sending me to live in a forgein land with nobody i know how can they do this!" doing a complete 180° because hes hot "oh my! Are you sure thats the person im marrying? Hes so handsome" "i know hes seven years older than me but you know 'age is just a number'! And besides men mature later then women so im sure mentally were the same age" and everyone in the palace is like "omg Princess your so lucky that YOU are the one who gets to marry that" "you're not marrying a boy, you're marrying a MAN. Oh i wish i could be that lucky" "since you dont want to marry him can i?" "Mom! Why does she get to marry the hot Prince!"

ATTENTION EVERYBODY I HAVE A NEW FAVORITE TROPE AND ITS THE BEST

Fake relationship/marriage AND playing house

Some examples to give you all a idea of how great this is

Its suburbia. A and B have been chilling in different bedrooms. Their neighbors' house has to be fumigated immediatly and they dont have family nearby. A and B say they can crash with them for a few days. They forgot they're supposed to be a stereotypical married couple. Que: running around trying to move all of A's things into B's room to look like they sleep in the same bed, actually sleeping in the same bed, sharing a bathroom, buying groceries because normal people don't subsist off of instant noodles, etc
a nice meaning person/couple saying "so are you guys trying for kids?". This blows either one or both of A and B's minds. At first they're like "oh were not ready for kids" and then it pans to panicked "don't think about what it would be like if A put a baby in me"/"don't think about what it would be like to put a baby in B". They obviously fail in that aspect and now one of them/both of them can't stop thinking about sex
Developing a causal touch language outside the house but it becomes so normal they do it when they're alone (ex: hand on lower back, kissing A's/B's forehead, standing with their arms around each other, goodbye cheek kisses)
Talking about improvements they can do on the house and whether or not to get a pet
A and B are great friends and so far their friendship intimacy has passed them off as a non-PDA married couple. Something happens where they're being pressured into mouth-on-mouth kissing but another thing happens that lets them not do that. Two days later they're sitting in the dark watching TV at 2am and A turns to B and goes "maybe we should kiss right now. That way it won't be awkward if we have to do it in public" and B is oblivously like "well we'd have to kiss multiple times for it to stop being awkward". Cue makeout session
Block parties. A and B are in full married couple mode in getting ready for it and BBQing and hanging out with the neighbors and none of it is acting its just a natural state of being
A and B have a routine down. They watch TV at night in A's room and sometimes B falls asleep. When B makes it to B's room at night to sleep B will run over in the morning because the floor is cold and crawl into A's bed so they can go on their phones together. At one point B sleeps in A's bed everynight unless B goes to bed early or is mad at A. A realizes they really liked the domesticy that was laying under a fluffy comforter with B and doing their own things while their legs brushed or tangled together.
A and B are approached by a couple who's looking to swing
A and B have normal neighbor guests come over to talk about normal things like where to put a grill but A and B have to shove all their weapons/random give away item in a room and lock it
A going golfing(?) with the neighborhood dudes/ladies and B looking forward to saturday gatherings at Barb and Dan's house

When i say i want found family tropes i dont mean "a few people reluctantly end up liking the people theyre stuck with" or "we call each other family but ten years later we dont talk because once these two started dating the drama tore us all apart" i mean "what do you mean you dont have a dad! well guess i have to be your dad now lets go shopping for your new room and meet up with my friends later"
