“Can we talk?” with Vaxleth?👀
"Can we talk?" Vax stopped Keyleth as she was about to push past him and to the breakfast table. He held her bicep gently, not holding her in place, but just stopping her movement.
Keyleth jerked her arm out of his grasp, "I've said what I needed to say. Clearly you weren't listening."
She tried to move past him again, but Vax stepped in front of her. She was just a bit taller than him so he had to look up to meet her gaze. There was desperation in his brown eyes. That was what made her pause.
"Keyleth, please," Vax said softly. "You're right, I wasn't listening to you. And if you let me say what I need to and you don't like it, I swear that I will leave you alone." When she said nothing he repeated, "Please." And his voice broke.
Keyleth swallowed and hugged herself, "What do you need to say?"
Vax nodded as if psyching himself up. "I was wrong about so many things. My relationship with the Raven Queen should have nothing to do with my relationship to you." Keyleth looked at her feet. "And you are a brilliant and creative and-and kind woman and I should have never insinuated that I knew what was best for you."
Vax took one of her hands in both of his. "I can't promise that I will always be smart, especially when it comes to matter of the heart. But what I can promise is love."
Keyleth's eyes flashed to his. He looked so nervous, it was adorable.
Upon their eyes meeting, Vax seemed to gain confidence. He kissed the back of her hand, "Love, as long as you'll have me."
With tears in her eyes and a frog in her throat, Keyleth touched his cheek. He leaned into it like a starving man. And she said, "Okay."
