Solas: Yes.
Varric: But he went on living. He lost everyone, but he still got up every morning. He made a life, even if it was alone.
Varric: That's the world. Everything you build, it tears down. Everything you've got, it takes. And it's gone forever.
Varric: The only choices you get are to lie down and die or keep going. He kept going. That's as close to beating the world as anyone gets.
Solas: Well said. Perhaps I was mistaken.

There’s people out there acting like Varric and Solas’ friendship came out if nowhere, which tells me they haven’t had either of them in their party together for any substantial amount of time. There’s compilations of the companion dialogue on YouTube. If you listen to Solas and Varric’s banter, it’s clear that Solas genuinely cares for and respects Varric, and has even admitted even Varric proved his opinions wrong. Here’s my favorite example of that.
