I've been thinking about the Smooze lately. This may be a conincidence, but the Smooze shares similarities to a failed Hasbro toy. In the 1960s, when Disney made the movie Son Of Flubber [sequel to the Absent Minded Professor, which was remade into Flubber 1998], Hasbro made a toy version of Flubber. It caused rashes, so Hasbro tried everything to destroy it. Nothing worked, so according to urban legend, the Flubber was buried under a parking lot. The Smooze can only be beaten by one thing in both gens it is in [flutter ponies for G1, Treehugger's singing in G4], and the G4 Smooze is even green like Flubber!
I remember the original Absent-Minded Professor and the remake--both pretty good! Love that urban legend, it could still be chilling under there with the E.T. NES games.
It also looks a lot like the Pokemon Muk (although it predates Muk).
