I wish I had a better memory b/c there was so much drama in the “old time” MLP community which was deadly serious at the time but funny in retrospect.

Like someone held a pony meet in their home (like a casual one, not like Pony Fair) and after it was over they were horrified to discover that their Rapunzel--the most expensive US mass-marketed pony, worth $500--had been stolen from their pony collection room and REPLACED with a different Rapunzel. The “new” Rapunzel had messier hair and had a gross sticky substance on her. Possibly she also was in the wrong place on the shelf? I can’t remember.

Of course this was shocking and the community immediately became a gang of amateur sleuths trying to figure out who had stolen the “original” Rapunzel and watching eBay in case the thief listed her. The thing was, the pony room had been open (b/c of course a collector is going to want to show off their collection) and anyone was free to wander in and out.

So this situation persisted for, I dunno, a week? Until finally . . . a dramatic confession!

But not of theft!

Turns out, the pony-meet-holder’s daughter had been in the pony room, playing with some other kids at the meet. She had taken Rapunzel down from the shelf to show off . . . and while the kids were admiring her, one of them had accidentally spilled cola on her.

I’m sure the daughter died a thousand deaths in that moment. She put the pony back and didn’t say anything to her mom, which of course she should have, but also RELATABLE.

So “replacement Rapunzel” turned out to be “original Rapunzel” after all, who was cleaned up to no permanent harm, and the daughter apologized to her mom, who was understanding about it.

Some of the tags are saying ‘I don’t know what this references’ so I’ll pass on some photos that Amebaby shared with me! This is more of an Instagram/Facebook drama, I think.

Basically, a guy (Dinkydinomite) went on eBay and listed his Rapunzel pony for sale, with some ridiculous flavor text about how his ‘11 year old child found it and declared it will pay for her Stanford education’ and now he’s selling this as her investment. He also makes ridiculous claims like there’s only 100 known Rapunzels in the world. The downside? The pony looks pretty rough, and he’s asking for ten thousand dollars.

So the pony people get kinda upset, they’re like ‘wtf the MIP one only sold for $3,000 you’re crazy dude’ SO HE UPS IT TO 20k AND STARTS MAKING POSTS ABOUT HOW RUDE THE MLP COMMUNITY IS.

He also includes such highlights as “I CONTROL THE #MLP MARKET” on his Instagram. Because that’s normal behavior! Here’s the eBay listing:
