I really like that soon after baby Law joins up, Dofalmingo can be seen reading a book about the white town. Despite knowing the story already, as he corrected someone before for thinking the lead poisoning is an illness. Because of this little, subtle thing, you can see that he cares about the new kid enough to investigate a bit.

It’s so great to see a villian group with a (mostly) caring inner dynamic, instead of the usual ‘”let’s show the readers that they are bad so they don’t care about each other” crap. This book is such a little detail, easy to miss, especially in the middle of his Tenryuubito flasback, but so nice to have as it adds another layer to his charater.

yo dude what do you think of this: doflamingo is a tenryuubito right, so like maybe his personality is influenced by the mistreatment of the slaves, like maybe thats something very appealing to him.... or maybe he was the son of the tenryuubito+ a slave idkkk man i rlly hope we get a backstory for doffy

Yes, Doflamingo USED TO BE a Tenryuubito. He said himself in chapter 723 that he isn’t one any longer, and added this as well

This is the sort of thing that makes me wonder so much about what kind of life must someone who was born as a certified ruler of the world have gone through to make him want to become a pirate with his own “family.”

For a while there I wondered if perhaps Doflamingo might have made his pirate family out of slaves that he had freed, but the problem with that idea is that he kept selling slaves through the Human Auction house on Sabaody. But even if Doflamingo has sold slaves, helped and funded Caesar abduct, experiment on, and murder children, made and sold arms, profited off war, overthrew a happy kingdom and replaced it with a rule of masked oppression, and more…. he still seems to really love his motley, stupid, ragtag family. The love he has for them is what made me start to get really interested in Doflamingo’s character as someone who was more than just a constantly smiling, fabulous psychopath. Doflamingo is nihilistic and subscribes to a very detached, realistic view of the world that disavows the importance of dreams and encourages the idea of the relativity of everything, including the idea that Justice means nothing beyond what those in control define it as. But again, despite all this, he cares for his crew, and they care about him. They don’t follow him on threat of death, they don’t fear failure because he’ll kill them if they disappoint him—they fear failure because they want to help him. Even when facing death they can smile from the bottom of their hearts just because he thanked them

Doflamingo was even willing to let Caesar escape because Law was holding a member of his family hostage. And Jora had already failed him and been defeated by Brook, yet Doflamingo still wanted to protect her life more than he wanted to retrieve Caesar and help ensure his safety from Kaidou’s wrath.

All this has come together to make Doflamingo one of the most interesting characters in the series, in my opinion. If we don’t get a flashback for Doflamingo I will be incredibly disappointed.
