Prompt: It’s 1964 and Rose Tyler just married Dr. John Smith, a famed physicist and engineer pioneering the field of temporal physics. He’s designed his own time machine and Rose assists as she can. One day, while he was testing the machine, something goes wrong and he disappears just as the time machine explodes. Rose, having survived the explosion, finds that she no longer ages. Flash forward to 2018, Rose Smith is the head of Bad Wolf Enterprises, which is a front for Britain’s top defense organization, Torchwood. It was discovered that the initial accident tore a hole in spacetime and weakened the fabric of reality all around it. The area was dubbed Area X and Torchwood has been monitoring it since the accident. Rose has spent the last fifty years doing her best to keep the rift stable, but in the last couple years it has progressively gotten worse and none of her scientists know how to fix it. If they had all of Dr. Smith’s notes they might know how to close the rift, but those disappeared the same day that Rose became a widow. One night, the rift begins to behave strangely and the readings go off the charts as it spits something out: something very human and very confused as to where he ended up.

Rose is contacted immediately following the development and she rushes to Torchwood headquarters at half past eleven in the evening to see what exactly the rift had in store for her this time. Her heart nearly stops at the sight that greets her: there, being poked and prodded by various scientists, is Dr. John Smith, also known as Rose’s dead husband. At least, that’s what she’d assumed.

When Dr. John Smith saw his time machine spark, he knew it was too late. He didn’t even have time to warn his wife before he was blinded by gold light. The the next thing he knew, he was lying on the floor of what remained of their home. Rose was nowhere to be found.

Not even a moment later, the entire structure was flooded with soldiers brandishing weapons far too advanced for his time. His time machine worked, but at what cost? There wasn’t any time for him to linger on this thought as a soldier named Mickey Smith escorted him to a black van and cuffed and blindfolded him. After a long car ride, John found himself inside some kind of infirmary being checked out by various scientists and doctors. Eventually, a doctor by the name Martha sensed his distress and informed him that any records of his wife could only be accessed by the director, who was already on her way over. She explained that much of the information about those involved with initial accident was redacted.

When the director finally arrived, John was determined to give her a piece of his mind for how he was being treated. He should be getting praises for his work, not being treated like some lab rat.

And then the doors opened and all his complaints instantly died on his lips.

Well, he knew what happened to his wife.
