In my opinion the hard part of street photography is not the subject but background. Advertisements, other people, elements interfering with subjects silhouette and artificial lights are often beyond control and unpredictable. The way I (and countless others) deal with it is by finding interesting spot and waiting for subject. I enjoy this method, but honestly it has more to do with architecture photography than street photography. It uses people as props to highlight interesting background, without any consideration for actions or personality supposed “subjects” (notice that there are almost no faces on example photos). On the other hand this kind of photography ensures at least competent (I hope) composition and lighting, and allows photographer to keep distance from scary people. What do you thing? Is this kind of photos just a first step to a “serious” street photography or is it a separate genre worth distinguishing? Or maybe you dont agree at all, but then you just waisted a bit of time on reading this, I am sorry.
About the photos:
I chose only black&white for consistency. Also last photo is an evidence that you can get some interesting actions even by camping for photo.
About the format:
I am new at writing this kind of notes, also I am not a native inglish speaker so don’t hesitate to commenting on that too.
none of my friends ever heard of tumbrl I made myself instagram (minimal effort photography) and it will change how things work here. From now on this will be more blogish and less portfolioish and I will write about my photography process and thoughts. It’s not because I consider my self great (I am rather ok) but because I want to look back in few years and see what changed in my approach to photography. Expect a note once or twice a week
