I am curious to see which comics the tumblr comics fandom (as well as anyone outside if you're interested) has actually read, as well as to spread some comics recs because as you may have guessed by my icon I am languishing in rare character hell.

Poll options will be "Yes", "Partially", "No" and "Haven't Even Heard of this Comic" and I will accept comics both from the Big Two and through Indie Publishers. Please submit suggestions through the askbox in the format of proper title and year the run was published, such as JSA (1999) or Batman (2016).

I will be tagging posts with the name of the comic as well as the publishing company to reach a wider audience.

Feel free to reblog with propaganda as to why people should read your niche 80s comic blorbos, I think that would be fun.

Anyway have fun!

Fiction Works with Footnotes

Round 1

Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell :

The best book I've ever read with no sequel. Read at your own risk, it is an immaculate novel that will probably never get a follow up. The worldbuilding is some of the finest I've read.

The book is filled with footnotes mimicking academic citations and references to innumerable fake books that really make it feel there is a much wider world out there and the book is only centering on this one period of time

So the book is an in universe academic account and the footnotes are basically the watsonian author being salty about historical figures. like what more could you want in a footnote. In terms of the book as a whole, its villain was the inspiration for michael shelley of magnus archives fame so something must've been done right

The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl Beats Up the Marvel Universe :

A published graphic novel with footnotes at the bottom of each page like a webcomic. Very silly and fun. I <3 Squirrel Girl

hello comic readers! this is a blog where you submit comics and i post polls asking if people have read those comics! this is inspired by @haveyoureadthiscomic-poll, who very graciously allowed me to make my own version of their blog.

submission rules:

must be in print. whether that's floppies, trades, manga, graphic novels or whatever. web comics are only allowed if they have been released in print (i.e. heartstopper, lore olympus).

you can submit runs, single issues, or trades. runs can be submitted by volume (i.e. Flash (1987)), by author (i.e. Flash (1987) #164-225 by Geoff Johns), by issue (i.e. Flash (1987) #14), or by arc (i.e. Flash (1987) #62-65). the only requirements are that if you aren't submitting by volume or trade/graphic novel, you must give me issue numbers. author, artist, and year published/started are required for everything, or i won't post it.

please don't submit fan comics or zines.

that's about it for rules. i'll add anything additional if it comes up. but for now, go wild: https://forms.gle/pzHXs3GxLve6CZML8

In case any of you here also use X/Twitter.

Hey so seems like right now would be a really good time for any and all artists and writers still on this site to get the hell out.

It sucks to migrate sites if you’ve been in one place for years - I know; I’ve done it a couple times now when places went down over the years. But this is really scummy.

Can we talk about how Gail Simone has (allegedly) ripped off a latine comic writer and artist with her latest addition to the X-Men?

A couple of days ago, a friend sent me this video:

Translation:

Yesterday I found out through Instagram that there’s an Argentinean X-Men. When I check out the news, I notice that the character is identical to one of my characters. The same hair, face, look, color. I keep looking into it and I can tell that the hand details, they have the same gloves, same accessories.
I also find out that the author (Gail Simone) has been to Argentina and that she was in the same convention I was part of. And after reading a bit more, I realize that the [character] origin is similar. So I tried to reach out to the authors, but I did not get any reply.
You can check out my social media, @nncomics on Instagram or nncomics.com, where you’ll find my character Luc from my comic PETS that I’ve been working on for over ten years. You can download it for free to check this out [what he’s saying], and, if you want, to check out the story and read it.
Let’s hope that, well, with everyone’s help we can add pressure so that our creations being stolen without any kind of repercussions does not happen again to us Argentinean authors. So that this doesn’t happen again, and so that Argentinean culture remains where it should be, at the very top, but in the hands of its creators.

Martín Gimenez (the artist/writer for PETS) also shared this on Instagram.

To me, the side by side comparison really shows how similar the designs are. The fact that Gail was part of the same convention as Martin only makes this situation even more suspicious. I've been looking around a bit, and not only are the origin stories of both characters similar, but their powers are so similar, too. The only thing that is not identical is the hairstyle.

Latin american creators either get painfully overlooked, or they have to endure blatant theft. I hope one day both Marvel and DC start treating us better.
