Animation from a couple years ago!
Some closer shots of Indie's feathers. He's sulking because it's cold, but he refuses to go into the coop out of the wind because he might miss Events.
This is also a good few shots of how they tuck their heads for sleep! I often hear people say birds tuck their heads "under" their wing to sleep. This is both correct but absolutely not how you picture it. They are not lifting their wing up to put their head under it. Instead, they twist their head around and put their beak into their feathers from above, tucking their beak into the down at the base of their wings, or even deep enough to tuck into the bare skin of their wing bone, where it lies against their body while folded! So it's technically "under" the wing but from above! Then (in peafowl at least) the feathers of their saddle (the scale feathers between their shoulders) actually flare up into a little hat over their head to enclose it, since the tiny feathers on their heads do not hold heat well at all.
wow - like…. I didn’t think corvids did that synced flying formations?!
I’ve only ever seen this with like ‘flocks’ of starlings and things
@is-the-bird-video-cute how or why are they so in sync?? Im so curious!

Murderbot Wing AU
You know those AUs where people grow wings based on how much they’re loved?
- SecUnits don’t have wings. So it does a lot for MB’s disguise, if not for its peace of mind, when it sprouts some immediately after ASR.
- By the time it meets PreservationAux again the wings are a decent size. Ratthi compliments them, of course.
- Some of the feathers have an odd metallic sheen, but MB figures that’s just how it would be for SecUnits. If they’re going to have wings of course they’d have weird ones.
- Then it meets ART’s crew in NE and they all have wings with the same metallic sheen in them. Oh.
Bonus
- Three has little drifts of feathers on its back, small enough they’ve been ignored by its cubicle, but definitely there.
Imagine the first time Murderbot is in a position to actually use those wings to escape an enemy or defend itself. The love of its friends literally, physically, protecting it. Or even helping it protect them.
It’s not what you would call “good dancing”
