I noticed him at the church, first. A lean, silent man with bangs long enough to hide dark eyes behind, and a tunic draped shut over leggings and dusty, worn traveler's boots. His back was straight but his shoulders hunched inward and his head tilted down, making him look like one of the barn owls that lurked in the branches of the trees of the mountain at night, how they held their bodies completely still and yet their wings, folded just barely at their sides, were ready to spill open any moment. He looked like a bird of prey, the moment before they sight their mark and drop low and fast to catch it.
There is a man who is waiting for something.
