Normally I appreciate John Oliver but jfc he frustrates me when he talks about trans identified people and trans ideology. This week he threw out some bullshit about there being no evidence that TIMs pose a danger to females in sports, and then gushed about the fact that trans identified people were elected this cycle. The fact that he didn't notice for a second that all of them were TIMs drives me crazy. That liberals in general are oblivious to the fact that all the trans identified people being given attention are males is endlessly frustrating to me. The only times people even bother to acknowledge TIFs is when it comes to using dehumanizing language for women. I just. I wish liberals and leftists would spend two seconds thinking about this. REALLY thinking. I think if they were willing to acknowledge the reality of sex based oppression they'd be capable of seeing how much the TRM advances that oppression. But women aren't really people to them. We're just props.

yeah i think with his show it's a shift in the writing staff over time - he seems to have really leaned in with the condescending "there isn't even a problem here and if you think you see one you're a lying crazy fascist bigot" routine in the past few years
actually nvm it's definitely a shift in the writing staff, just remembered an interview with one of the original writers that goes over it
but he's far from the only source of it, i've seen plenty of people regurgitate that line (usually a woman saying something about trans rights twaw etc and a tim in the replies with "yeah there's not even any evidence that they perform better in sports") and it's like, if you guys took a step back and looked at what you're doing, you'd see that you're speedrunning all the patterns that you swear don't exist
the only silver lining is that they're giving really clean examples of all the stuff we're saying, but yeah it's hardly a source of hope

There were always slip ups, ensuing in weeks of passive aggressive, meek af "communicating" (reading passages from "conflict is not abuse") before it all went back to exactly how it was: miserable and bleak and a big lie

and yeah that sounds like the type where they make up a bunch of rules either to control other people and get surprised when people notice what they're doing or make up a bunch of rules to cover the void within themselves and get surprised when it doesn't work

Tried the poly thing when I was 16 because my friend (who was much older) kept insisting that monogamy was heteronormative and patriarchal (I'm a lesbian). It lasted a few months but was absolutely disastrous and impacted my relationship with jealousy/boundaries/tolerance. I'm now a biologist and I lose a year of my life every time some terminally online troglodyte says monogamy goes against human nature. Girl you mean heterosexuality (in the form we know it) does!! they're always either pressuring you to do it because they wanna take advantage of you or pressuring you to do it so they don't have to do any introspection and either way they don't actually end up proving anything
