If I don’t come back, the company’s yours.
Ack Ack got me my battlefield commission on the Canal. Seems like a thousand years ago now.
(he’s more myself than I am)
Into the Dark - an andyeddie fanmix; a mix for two friends made for each other in the wrong place and the wrong time that eventually followed each other into the dark. [listen]
1. i will follow you into the dark / death cab for cutie; 2. king and lionheart / of monsters and men; 3. hello, i’m in delaware / city and colour; 4. skinny love (das kapital remix) / bon iver; 5. dead sea / the lumineers; 6. tethered / sleeping at last; 7. ivory road / king charles; 8. where are you now / mumford and sons; 9. sleeping sickness / city and colour; 10. terrible love (alternate version) / the national
i know i always talk about this but. “don’t go where i can’t follow” is such a wild line. it’s literally 6 words and yet
can we just talk about the smiles that andy and eddie share during the “if I don’t come back the company’s yours” bit. bECAUSE!!!!!!!!!!!!
anyone wanna buy a semi rundown house with me that we spend the summer fixing up, long nights with the radio playing gently into the night as we put down new floor boards, sitting in freshly painted rooms watching the sun set out the window…… sorry, i cant finish this post, the fantasy got to me…..
k but speaking of, the thing i love most about that climb the tank scene was the silent understanding of it, like haldane strolls in front of the tank and just looks at jones and jones nods and climbs the tank, like do you guys spend patrols working out a bunch of plans? 'ok, scenario #257, we have wounded men but they arent getting help- we point our guns at someone until they do as we ask’ ‘scenario #448, one of the boys gets a splinter- we pOINT OUR GUNS AT SOMEONE UNTIL THEY FIND TWEEZERS’
i think about this a lot
y'all should hit me with your favourite ship headcanons bc I’m bored
i already replied to this but i had more if you’ll take em
Eddie has tattoos, which everyone expects, but he’s also let casually slip that Andy has one (1) somewhere on his body. It drives the K Company boys fucking nuts because it’s clearly hidden and Hillbilly is the only one who’s seen it, but refuses to divulge it’s location or content. Common fables from Eddie include; “It’s my face, on one ass cheek”, “The USMC globe ‘n anchor, on his hip, only the eagle’s replaced with a big ol’ winged dick”, and his personal favourite, “he’s got a chapter from ‘Gene’s book under his nipple… won’t say which though. He said it was ‘The Really Gay Bit’.”
If the boys were smart, they’d realize that Gunny, who always says he doesn’t give a shit about “Skipper’s secret tramp stamp” also knows what it is and where. Because he put it there. He did all of Eddie’s, too.
Eddie commonly threatens to bring up what he calls Andy’s “dad hobbies” at inopportune moments. Really, he finds them very cute and so incredibly harmless that he will actually bring them up whenever he’s talking about his love for the man. “He collects them football cards.” He’ll say, possibly when drunk, “Can y’ believe that? He plays football like a fuckin’ champ, why’s he want lil’ paper people?” Eddie buys him packs of cards whenever he sees them at a store, nowadays. They never miss a game on TV or the radio.
The other one is model planes. It’s what Andy would call “cheap therapy” because he finds putting them together lightly challenging, good for fine motor skills, and painting them is very calming. Eddie calls it “more expensive than therapy” when he hands Andy a wrapped gift containing a particularly rare model.
It takes Eddie a longer time than it should to admit he needs glasses. He’s needed them for reading most of his life but he genuinely believed that he was just too stupid and uneducated to read the long, finely printed words in books.
After a strained battle to get the man to understand that he’s just long-sighted, Andy turns up one day wearing his own pair of glasses. (He doesn’t actually need them but that’s not the point.) He says he’s just found out he needs them himself and asks Eddie if he thinks any less of him because of it. Eddie says “No, ‘course not, why would I-” He catches on pretty quick. Andy holds his hand when he puts his new, real pair on for the first time. He asks Eddie to read to him, now that he can see. Eddie gets through about half a chapter before he starts crying.
They have a complicated relationship with betting card games. They both have exceptionally good poker faces; Eddie’s is a cold brick wall and Andy’s is a good natured smile that makes you think he’s just playing for fun. It makes them aggressively competitive and fights (plural) have broken out because of it, not all of which had them fighting on the same team in the early days. They exclusively play strip-poker now. Still fun, different stakes. Entertaining with company or alone, though they rarely finish the game when it’s the latter. They argue about who won by forfeit in the morning after.
you are an amazing human being I’m literally in love with every one of these!? they’re so in character?? definitely not tearing up at the idea of eddie crying when he finally reads to andy..nope….not at all.
honestly though, I can picture every one of these happening and I absolutely adore it! tysm, these just made my day!!
lads its too early in the day to be sending me this god damn wild
Andy & Eddie, before during after the war.
“I hope youSTAY a while . ”
I CANNOT OMFG I- THIS?? IS SO CANON?!? IM SCREAMING
I-SOMEONE KEEP ME FROM SCREAMING OMFG
Thoughts on AndyEddie😏😂💖
My immediate reaction to being reminded of these two is my brain just “ahhhhhhhhh 😭💔” so….
First up, the first time I watched it I genuinely thought they were the same dude?? Idk man they looked similar and I watched Eddie die and got sad but I think I was scrolling the sledgefu tag at the same time so I look up later and see Andy dead and I was like “didn’t he just die??” I look back on that moment with jealousy because it’s the one and only time I didn’t get sad over these two.
I will forever stick by the belief that they’re soulmates. Platonic or not I don’t care. I wish we got to see them on the canal and Gloucester because man. I wanna know what Eddie did for Andy to request him as his lieutenant without having met him. I wanna see them on Melbourne together.
“If I don’t come back, the company’s yours.” speaks volumes. It makes me think Eddie doesn’t feel qualified enough for his rank and that he and Andy have had this discussion a lot. It also shows the trust they have for one another.
The “Old friends, huh?” “That explains it.” and the smile and look Eddie gives Andy there? It’s not even outright said but in those two lines we immediately know them two are best friends.
When Andy goes off and Eddie’s all worried with his “You sure?” and Andy turns to meet his eyes because he can feel Eddie’s concern. Eye contact is a very important thing for these two!
Also almost forgot Eddie’s little “good luck” when Andy goes back to battalion. It’s like a little “I love you, please be safe” but ya know they’re surrounded by their boys so good luck will have to suffice.
The whole helmet scene?? Andy clearly noticing Eddie missing his (I’m willing to put money on Andy being stressed af when he sees Eddie running across that airfield like that). The “thank you, sir” and how Eddie ducks his head, Andy clears his throat and pats him on the arm? Idk there’s something there man…
Also “Ack-Ack got me on battlefield commission on the canal…seems like a thousand years ago now…” is important because Eddie’s voice is so soft here? He’s staring after Andy with this dream-like look and I just wish we could see what he was remembering.
The tank scene is iconic. Not a single word is shared between them, hence why I said eye contact is important with them. They don’t need to speak to understand what the other is thinking. And I love how it’s Eddie taking charge here, shows he’s not just some soft guy and is actually badass. Andy being his back-up, leading the men, but ultimately leaving the actual situation to Eddie. Considering he’s the Captain this is pretty big and I love the fact that Andy has already learnt that Eddie has this side to him because he’s the one out of everyone there that just isn’t surprised. He totally expected Eddie to haul himself onto the tank and aim a gun at the dude. And Andy just watches him. Love it. I’ve watched this scene so many times.
Andy knowing Eddie was upset after the shovel incident and making a beeline for him, making sure he wasn’t blaming himself?
And then, of course, when he tries everything to get Eddie back down the hill safely but can’t. When he’s staring down at the lifeless body of his best friend of 2 years, the guy he’s hardly gone a day without being around since meeting him. His voice breaks and he says his name - I’m sure it’s the first time he doesn’t call him Hillbilly in the show? Implies they used their proper names around each other. His little resigned “take him back”? My heart…
My reasoning for strongly believing them to be soulmates is purely from how they make it through hell for 2 years and then Andy can’t last 2 days without Eddie. It’s heartbreaking. I hate to think how lonely and hard those 2 days must have been for him…
dONT im gonna cry
If I don’t come back, the company’s yours.
