DW Confidential Rewatch: 4x02 The Italian Job
The Tenth Doctor from The Doctor’s Daughter, for Ten Tuesday (or whatever day this post may find you)
Excerpt from the episode podcast, talking about this moment:
Russell T. Davies: …and do you know what? Sir David Tennant, I think this is one of your finest performances, here in this cell. Alice Troughton: Yes RTD: Don’t get embarrassed David Tennant: [incoherent mumbling noises] RTD: I just think it’s brilliant. The way you put smiles in, dark little smiles, and edginess. You explain the Time War here like you’ve never done so before, because you’ve explained it to someone who’s closer to you in a way. That smile there, that’s the one. I love that. That’s dark. He’s embarrassed now. DT: I’m embarr… yeah RTD: Actually, faithful viewer, he’s writing it all down [DT & AT snickering in the background] That’s terrible. And will have t-shirts made of it. DT: I’m dubbing it RTD: [Laughing] You’ll have it as your ring tone DT: Yes, I will [laughing] RTD: …that little speech of mine! But I mean it and we don’t say it often enough. I think it’s just phenominal
Look at how fast David Tennant throws himself down those stairs.
This is from the Doctor Who Confidential episode “Stage Fright” (which accompanied The Shakespeare Code)
You can see that the three of them (the Doctor, Martha, and Shakespeare) start together at the top of the stairs. David runs down at breakneck speed - taking the steps at least two at a time - leaving Martha and Shakespeare far behind (Freema and Dean are running more like normal people - being careful to not to kill themselves on the old and probably rather uneven steps).
I don’t think he can even stand up straight on those stairs - he’s crouching down because the ceiling/covering is too low for him. He somehow even manages to make it look graceful. Amazing!
