Lucas to Continue Service on Hallmark Media Board of Directors

AUGUST 8, 2023, NEW YORK – Hallmark Media announced today that after three years of transformational leadership, Wonya Lucas will step away from her current operating role as President & CEO at the end of the year. Lucas will continue to serve on the Hallmark Media Board of Directors where her experiences and insights will help shape the strategic direction of the business.

In her time leading the company, Lucas helped to build a more solid foundation for the business through broadened storytelling with more diverse and inclusive storylines and characters. She assembled a seasoned, highly competent, creative and resilient leadership team and together they built multiple new pathways for the brand – forging new partnerships with Peacock, YouTube and Hulu, as well as numerous FAST/AVOD platforms. She launched programs in support of women creatives with the Make Her Mark Women’s Directing Program. Erin Allen (Hutton) is a single mother to her football-loving 12-year-old daughter, Kiera (Sophia Powers, “Unexpected Grace”), who plays in the town’s junior flag football league. At Keira’s football practice, Erin runs into the coach’s brother and professional football player, Mike Hanson (Paevey). Erin and Mike are blindsided – they were college sweethearts. Mike is visiting his brother, Jimmy (Dan Payne, “Outrunners”), while healing from a football injury that diminishes his chances of achieving his dream of finally getting a championship ring. When Jimmy gets the call to coach the high school team, Mike steps up as the flag football coach. As Erin and Mike spend time together, old sparks are rekindled despite Erin’s hesitance. Right before the championship game, Mike receives good news but also an unsettling truth while Erin learns to go after what she wants – and they both learn to follow their hearts.

Former high school sweethearts, Haley (Kebbel) and Rob (Roerig), bump into each other while at an excavation site for an archeological research team, currently in the field at Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Rob immediately tries to reconnect with Haley and rekindle their romance, but Haley isn’t quite over Rob’s betrayal. During their senior year, Haley had applied for a research grant that was awarded to Rob instead of her. The two have not spoken since, but now Haley is determined to remain professional as she and Rob work together at this exciting excavation site. The two eventually reconnect over their common love of nature and history, spending time together exploring the park. But when Haley finds pictographs in a cave that may lead to the existence of a mythical Cherokee diamond, Rob struggles to keep up with her adventurous nature. And to complicate their relationship even more, they discover they are once again competing for the same research grant. They work together and finally find the cave, and slowly realize that the journey is perhaps more important than the destination – and love is more valuable than any research grant.

Megan (Bristow) is a research scientist living her dream in South Africa pursuing a Ph.D. in Ethology, while working as a ranger on a nature reserve. When Tim (Walker), an American theme park designer, arrives to capture footage for an immersive, safari-themed attraction, Megan serves as his guide. As they explore the savanna and observe giraffes, elephants and lions in their natural habitats, they open up to each other about their dreams and begin to grow close. Things are going well until Amy (Simoné Pretorius, “Hotel”), a woman from Tim’s past, arrives to take over the project. Amy’s reckless disregard for rules puts Megan’s job at risk and threatens Megan and Tim’s budding romance. Megan, knowing that Tim will soon return home, is also wary of giving her heart to someone who lives half a world away – but she may find that love is an adventure worth taking.
