OKAY. NO. NO. As a female reader, I can attest to the fact that over 70% of the teen books that women AND men write nowadays are downright CRAP. They are poorly written, unoriginal, unrealistic, and disgustingly filled with the same shallow attempt at teenage romance, ESPECIALLY the ridiculous shit that comes with anything that involves vampires or werewolves that have come post-Twilight and TVD, “trying” to be different when it’s the same nonsensical shit. John Green was a breath of fresh air when I read his teen novels. I nearly cried because for ONCE it wasn’t all the same. TFIOS gave a whole new meaning to “cancer romance” and was actually quite original. But what really stands out is An Abundance of Katherines. The plot was original, the writing was excellent, the entire format of the book was something I’d never seen before (filled with footnotes and and an appendix written by a MATHEMATICIAN to explain the MATH of the romance), a completely believable and relatable Muslim/Jewish/diverse characters, and INTERESTING. And I’m looking forward to be free enough to read Paper Towns. The truth is it has nothing to do with man or woman (IN FACT, I feel that FEMALE authors have had a generally higher success in teen literature than men, points in question: Harry Potter, The Hunger Games, Divergent, Mortal Instruments, Beautiful Creatures, Twilight, etc. and that male authors are at a disadvantage in this genre). You wite an appealing (if not good, because I’ll be honest, I couldn’t even FINISH Hunger Games because the writing was pretty poor) book, your successful. My God! Quit trying to make this a freaking gender issue.
