You know what really gets me?
How many brown children end up losing a kind, liberal, and understanding mother because of controlling, abusive, and usually religious brown fathers who break our mothers and dominate them to the point where they lose faith in their own abilities, set of morals, and sense of self; because of the mentally and emotionally damaging and suffocating nature of brown patriarchal families.
Like you’ll have these beautiful, good natured, free spirited, and sweet women with such open and inviting beliefs get married to these underwhelming, draining, and emotionally vacant men (whose own dulled mothers have made them believe they shit gold for merely existing), and years of that incessant abuse, humiliation, mockery, and criticism of every little thing they do (almost always hidden by the guise of religion to further hold our mothers hostage) makes them jaded, exhausted, stern, and cynical.
It’s frightening how these men and their families break our mothers and mold them into their image.
And then the cycle just continues. Over and over and over.
The most heartbreaking part? Most of us won’t even know our mothers before they became the mirrored the image of the stereotypical brown mom. We won’t know her before she had her personality and character stripped away from her. We won’t know her before she became the nagging, screeching, and whining pain in the ass. We won’t know her before years of serving the patriarch and his family turned her into a rough and bitter thing who tries to find the best for her children the same way her parents thought they were doing for her. She just becomes another form of a common enemy that modern day brown children fall victim to, despise, and try to avoid becoming.
Brown children have their mothers literally stolen from them by their own fathers. And those same men then literally do the same, on a larger and even more dominating manner, to their own daughters.
I hate so many of our brown fathers, for what they’re doing to us and what they did to those before us. A punishment in the afterlife isn’t nearly enough.
