Very curious about "Danny supposes he should be happy" 👀
“Well, Danny? What do you think?” Mom peeks at him over her clasped hands, her face scrunching in anticipation.
If the grin he gives her doesn’t quite reach his eyes, she doesn’t notice. “Thanks, Mom, Dad! This is gonna be awesome, I can’t wait!”
He’s happy, he really is! The fact that his parents remembered his birthday is a miracle in itself, and to actually get a present— such a thoughtful one at that, something he actually wanted and not some new ghost detecting gear or another ecto-gun—was far beyond his expectations. It’s just…
“Look at him, Maddie, so shocked he can’t even speak! We’ve outdone ourselves this year, the perfect present!”
“You’re only sweet 16 once, Jack, of course we had to make this one special! Are you excited, Danny?”
“That’s one word for it,” he mutters under his breath. “How did you even get this, don’t you have to live there to be invited to it?”
He waves the ticket around, looking underneath as if there would be an explanation.
“It’s such a funny story, Danny, you wouldn’t believe it! There we were, having gone toe to toe with a pesky ghost when good ol’ Vladdie turns up—”
Never mind not believing the story, he doesn’t need to hear the rest; he already knows he’s not going to like it. Where Vlad’s concerned, the only thing he’ll believe is the worst. It’s definitely a trap.
