I feel like what I really enjoyed about 《千秋》 was... the tenor of it? which probably isn’t the right word, but like--TGCF and CQL/MDZS both give me YA vibes in the sense that they’re focused on identity and self-discovery and coming-of-age. It’s about people discovering and growing into their potential, whether that’s a supreme ghost king or a chaotic good necromancer, and the emphasis is placed on individual characters and their relationships to each other (this is especially pronounced in TGCF, where, despite the massive scale of the world, all the story arcs still fundamentally revolve around... individual characters and their disastrous backstories).

meanwhile, Shen Qiao and Yan Wushi are... well, it seems a bit weird to say “they seem older” when Xie Lian and Hua Cheng are literally out here being 800-year-old divine/demonic beings, but there is a steadiness to both Shen Qiao and Yan Wushi that feels very different. They both already know who they are; they don’t need to grow into their identities, they don’t agonize about what they are or what they feel they need to become. A central theme of 《千秋》 is remaining steady in an increasingly unstable world, and both Yan Wushi and Shen Qiao embody that, albeit with very different personalities and perspectives.
