Tumblr > Instagram because on Instagram all I see is somebody’s face and breakfast and Bali vacation, whereas on Tumblr I get to discuss the derangement of incestuous relationships between my favourite characters from 2005 and also the 19th century
awesome
As much as I hate to ruin the joke, the article is really good. Here it is in full!
I’m sorry but tumblr’s uniqueness and value ONLY comes from reblogging. Like, apart from Twitter, where the creations aren’t as variable, the rest of it: Facebook, Instagram, TikTok is mostly focused on personal creation. On individuality. But tumblr is created to be shared, to reblog, that’s the only way you can use this site really. Tumblr is more about community than individuality, and that is a good thing.
TikTok should explode btw. Just. Poof. One day we wake up and there’s no such app anywhere. No videos reposted anywhere. TikTok? You mean by Kesha? Haha that’s a classic
I am honestly so tired of perfection. Perfectly polished and painted nails. Perfectly smelling and groomed hair. Perfectly styled, ironed and worn clothes. Perfect white teeth. Perfect answers only. No mistakes. Nothing too much, nothing too little. Nothing confusing, nothing passionate. What about being a mess? Nature is the most beautiful thing and it’s never perfect. What about people with slightly blurred edges, with eyes that glitter and hearts full of cold courage? What about smiles that are never too big, fingers that grip a bit too tightly, tiny black mascara marks under the eyes that are only visible to an attentive spectator? What about imperfect grades and questions that get you answers, not reputation? What about clothes full of pockets full of forgotten things collected over time, what about blueish bags under eyes and feet that are always cold and dirty? I am tired of perfection, for it is not natural. I want to embrace chaos and feed my soul real experiences rather than tailored and well-calculated reactions.
I’m curious do people literally don’t understand that violent death threats or wishes aren’t normal, acceptable or adequate, or do they just not care?
U know what I’m really mad about? Friendship tenderness erasure. Friends aren’t allowed to be gentle and tender with each other — they immediately become romanticised. Especially if it’s men, men showing signs of affection like holding hands or kissing on the cheek. They’re immediately turned gay/bi. And this isn’t an anti-gay post, this is just something that annoys me. Every time men hug/kiss/do anything more affectionate than a bro half-hug they are shipped, romanticised and called queer. I’m not even talking about man-woman friendship here, that shit doesn’t even exist in many people’s minds. Let! Friends! Show! Affection!
The fact that the tumblr main page is customisable is probably one of tumblr’s greatest pros. Cause I am in control over what I see and I can make it all about Star Wars or all about Kafka or all about cat memes or all about Taylor swift and I can also mix that up and create a social media that wouldn’t fill me with anxiety and boredom and anger and useless information but with inspiration and love and laughter and occasionally some serious contemplation. I have created a safe, beautiful, creative space for myself simply by following people who want to create beautiful things and share their thoughts, even if they are wiiiild. I love tumblr.
I’ve said it before, I’m gonna say it a thousand more times, I find it so freaking funny that aesthetic tm insta profiles just post tumblr text posts…like where would y’all be without us? Tumblr is the only place on the internet where you can still be as honest as you want to…….the only real social media left. Our favourite hellsite
It’s funny how whenever a major media site publishes a bloviating thinkpiece about The Rise and Fall of Tumblr, their elaborately justified list of things about Tumblr that modern social media users hate just happens to be perfectly, one-to-one identical with a list of things about Tumblr that make it difficult for advertisers to harvest personally identifying information about individual users. Like, exactly who do y’all think you’re fooling, buddy?
I love that Tumblr is actually a community. Your blog will be quite poor and boring if you only post your own stuff. Most of our blogs contain countless reblogs and discussions with other people on the website. This is communication and appreciation of each other’s creativity, thoughts, sketches and etc. It’s one thing to mindlessly like tons of photos a day like TikTok and Instagram offer you, and another to reblog and add hashtags and some comments about how the post made you feel or what you think you could add to a joke, a headcanon, an au, a story, an art… It makes this hellsite feel genuine.
In addition: Tumblr is so much more appealing to many of us than other media, especially Instagram, because this is actually a social app. A place where you communicate. Hve you seen those dudes on Insta? They don’t just talk or share their interests, that’s some old 2015 shit. They chase followers and strive for more and more likes because a lot of them depend on it. Instagram is literally their job, their business, their only source of money. And that absolutely ruins all the fun. On Tumblr…boy we are just thousands of crackheads who sob over favourite characters, post pretty pictures, argue for hours about nonexistent people and write embarrassing text posts that look like they belong to goblins. See the superiority?
