Why is it when originally a character is created white and then becomes black in a fanart/new movie it’s okay and ‘who cares anyway’ but when an originally black character is portrayed as white in a fanart/new movie, it’s whitewashing? I’m okay with white characters being turned black, and even if I don’t imagine it that way in my head, I still don’t dictate or complain or argue, because that is just my opinion and it has nothing to do with others. But I find this situation of views really…strange.
Romione headcanons:
The height difference between Ron and Hermione. He’s really tall and gained a bit more muscle after the war, so she likes cuddling him because it feels like being wrapped in a huge blanket.
Ron likes hugging her too, especially if he gets to hold her tightly for a long time and just stay silent. He picks her up often just because he finds it fun, and she thinks it’s really hot. Ron’s the big spoon.
Ron likes listening to Hermione read to him. It had taken her some time to get used to somebody listening, but she loves it too. Ron puts his head on her laps while she caresses his hair.
Hermione likes dancing to muggle rock music, so she let Ron listen to the biggest hits, and Ron loved it. They own a record player and sometimes they dance to Nick Cave, Bob Dylan or Fleetwood Mac. Ron also loves Bon Jovi now.
Hermione is still not really good at cooking, so Ron’s the cook, and she enjoys it so much. After all, she’s good at plenty of other things, and it’s important for Ron to have tasty food.
They often go on double dates with Harry and Ginny because they just feel so comfortable in each others’ company. Sometimes Harry and Hermione show Ron and Ginny the muggle world (cinema, coffeeshops, shopping), sometimes they go to Hogsmade or Diagon Alley together.
Otherwise they are really private about their relationship, they even keep their engagement a secret for some time (not from Harry and Ginny though). They enjoy being alone around each other and having their inner jokes/secrets.
Ron brings home sweets from the Weasley shop because Hermione has a severe hunger for candy after her pretty candyless childhood. Ron’s memorised all of her favourite tastes.
Hermione’s taught Ron how to play the piano. It took a lot of effort and practice, but every minute was worth it, because it was her. He now plays her favourite pieces and something more modern like Beatles or City of Stars.
They loved La-La-Land.
Hermione goes to sleep late, while Ron — early. But she loves reading at night while his head rests against her shoulder. Or even when he’s just near her.
Ron has beaten up a dude once for him calling Hermione a mudblood. Ron’s always had a temper, and Hermione’s his wife now. It landed on the first page of the Daily Prophet, Hermione tried not to leave her cabinet for a week after that. But she was low-key proud and content.
Unlike Harry and Ginny who are batshit crazy and fun loving and passionate, Ron and Hermione are very romantic and gentle and soft with each other.
Ron is absolutely amazed by his wife and thinks that she’s the coolest person ever.
Hermione loves Ron senselessly and has never been so comfortable around anybody else.

Damn the Ginny or Hermione one was hard. I love Ginny but Hermione’s just more relatable for me.
Yes, yes, Jo completely missed the perfect opportunity to make Harry a professor at Hogwarts but can we all just stop and agree that Hermione would never actually be the Minister of Magic?
Like don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying she’s not capable. Although we all know that Hermione went through the Legolas Effect in the movies and I think Jo might have been influenced by that a bit. Still, I have no doubt that if Hermione really wanted to be the Minister, her ambitiousness could get her there. She could pull it off. If she really wanted to. But in what book series does Hermione ever express any interest in ruling over the entire British wizarding world? Nah. One of Hermione’s biggest character growths in the series (that very few people talk about) is her going from completely and blindly trusting all authority figures to cynically realizing that there are very few, if any, out there who will be able to protect her, causing her to take matters into her own hands. She wouldn’t become the person in the position she hated. Nah. She would become the person who argued against the person in the position she hated.
Picture this (and then proceed to never look at the epilogue the same way again): Hermione Jean Granger, Supreme Lawyer for the Wizengamot.
It’s perfect. Even back in the first book, Hermione was argumentative, stubborn, bossy, and obsessed with research and facts. These traits never really went away as she got older. Instead, other traits were added on. She spent an entire year trying to help Hagrid prepare his case so that Buckbeak wasn’t wrongfully executed. (Honestly this alone should have been enough for Jo.) She gets involved in S.P.E.W. She frequently voices her concerns over Umbridge skiving the law. She recites certain laws throughout the book, such as Gamp’s law. She’s quick to take down the Minister of Magic when he lets it slip that they didn’t follow Dumbledore’s will.
I mean the Minister of Magic even looks at her and says that she should follow a career in Magical Law! (Granted Hermione turns him down but she just did that to get in a jab at how the Wizengamot and the related offices were useless at the time.)
Just imagine it though. Hermione Jean Granger arguing in front of the Wizengamot on behalf of the rights of Muggleborns, House-Elves, Muggles, etc. etc. etc. Hermione getting a public trial to posthumously clear Sirius’ name. Hermione ending the corruption and calling out the bullshit legally.
Hermione either prosecuting or defending previous Death Eaters and when it’s time for Lucius’ trial, Draco gapes at her and sneers, “Granger? You became an Attorney for the Wizengamot?” and she just stares back and asks:
Come on, tell me that wouldn’t be perfect.
YES I XANT THIS
This is an unpopular opinion, but I feel like I have to share it.
J.K. Rowling does not deserve all the hate people give her, and it drives me so mad seeing all this bullying, hypocrisy and stupidity.
Yes, her Twitter comment was transphobic, some of her opinions don’t meet with our society’s expectations, there are flaws in her book that people are totally free to don’t like and hate, etc. I’m not saying that she’s perfect.
But she isn’t as horrible as people make her to be either. Let’s remember, what J.K. actually did, apart from that Twitter reply:
1. Lost her billionaire status because she donated so much of her money (about 16% of all her worth that equals $160 million in 2011) to charity
2. Founded Lumos, an international non-profit organisation that promotes an end to the institutionalisation of children worldwide (helps orphaned children to find their families and provide them a loving home)
3. In 2018 she donated more than £8 million to various charities such as the Disasters Emergency Committee, Save the Children and others.
4. She also founded the Volant Charitable Trust that helps battle social deprivation, particularly supporting women, children and young people. Victims of rape, sexual abuse, domestic violence; sex workers, black and ethnic women; victims of neglect, emotional and physical abuse, etc.
5. JK supports such organisations as Children with AIDS (closed in 2014), Dyslexia Action, Gingerbread, Haven Foundation, Women’s Fund for Scotland and others. She was the first Gingerbread ambassador and has supported them since the year 2000.
6. Helped Evanna Lynch (Luna Lovegood) recover from an eating disorder by supporting and encouraging her by promising a role in Harry Potter if she got better.
7. Actually called out people on Twitter for making sexist, homophobic and islamophobic comments.
So, yes, while she did make transphobic comments and overall may be a controversial person, please, please, please let’s not forget how many good deeds she has done!
Those who pretend that JK Rowling “doesn’t exist” or “didn’t write HP”, who hate and “cancel” her are hypocrites and idiots. You are against bullying but you bully her. You cancel a person! CANCEL A PERSON. THAT SHIT IS SO FUCKED UP. NO ONE CAN CANCEL ANYBODY. You forget how many good things she has done and hate her for one comment on Twitter. You are so full of shit.
Please. Stop JK Rowling hate. You may hate her comment or some things she has done but she doesn’t deserve all this bullying. It makes me so angry seeing it.
It’s not for you, or anybody, to cancel a person. What is happening to her now is even worse than those transphobic comments, because she was one person with a maybe wrong opinion, and you are thousands of people.
Stop!
Harry Potter girls are wicked because they are 1) different and 2) well written. Their main character traits aren’t being a girl. Aren’t being feminine or being a badass.
Hermione is nerdy and introverted and genuinely loves learning and is quite emotionally detached. It isn’t viewed as a flaw - it is her character. And her friends love her for it. Even though she isn’t perfect. She really isn’t.
Ginny is extroverted and popular, but she’s also a real badass, she’s also brave and sharp tongued but not in a boy attracting way, not in a bitchy way, she just doesn’t give a fuck what anyone thinks of her and can and will protect those who need it.
Luna is dreamy, detached, weird and lonely. She’s weird not in a “I’m not like other girls so boys like me”. She’s just weird and stays that way even though people bully her for that because even if it’s not as visible, Luna is as metal as Ginny. She is a good friend, but she has always been lonely because she is actually different from everyone she knows (and in her case it doesn’t sound cliché). That is a well written, deep, original character.
Cho isn’t just a love interest like in the movies. Cho is described as a great Ravenclaw seeker. Cho is brave and strong because she joins the Dumbledore’s army even despite her mom’s position. Neville is praised for the same thing in the end of the Philosopher’s stone. Cho may be a little jealous of Harry but imo it makes her even more real. She has flaws just like Ginny and Hermione and Luna. She mourns Cedric but doesn’t turn into depression like fucking Bella Swan. She fights because that’s what Cedric would do.
Tonks is easy going and fun and reckless and amazingly brave and a Hufflepuff. She is basically the only argument you need when arguing with Hufflepuff haters. She is so young and already an Auror. But she’s also not unrealistically badass. She’s super clumsy (and not in a I’m clumsy in everything but things that are supposed to look hot and attract attention). She told Harry that she almost failed an exam because of her clumsiness. And it still doesn’t stop her from being amazing.
Andromeda is an example of a good Slytherin. She is brave and cunning at the same time. She went against her family too. She lost her family too. She still fought Voldemort, no matter the cost. She lost her daughter and her husband and her sisters and brothers and cousins and parents. She lost everyone and still stayed with Teddy because Teddy needed love and support. She is strong as hell but that is quiet strength. Other character’s are praised for what she went through silently.
Molly is a mother of a big family. She doesn’t fight the war (until Hogwarts), she doesn’t go out on missions, she didn’t come to rescue Harry in the beginning of TDH, she didn’t come to the Ministry in TOoTP. She stayed at the Grimmaud place to cook dinner for the tired Aurors, to make that house at least a little comfortable, to take care of the wounded, to raise her children. And other children. She stayed there and watched her family risk themselves, get wounded, even get killed. Molly is strong as hell and she’s still feminine. She does the “woman’s” work that many YA heroines disregard. Does anyone dare to disrespect Molly? I bet your sweet ass they would never.
Molly kills Voldemort’s right hand after all.
Lily Potter is kind but fierce and brave. Lily Potter joined the Order at the age of 19. Lily Potter died at the age of 21 protecting her son. Lily Potter was incredibly smart, maybe not the Hermione way, but still. Lily Potter is very interesting and it’s super sad that she’s eventually downplayed to being Snape’s love interest. However, Lily doesn’t fuck around. The moment he disrespected her she stopped being his friend.
Even Bellatrix. She is a great villain. She isn’t even a love interest of the main evil guy. She is loyal to him, maybe she loved him, but those aren’t her only motives. Bella is legitimately mad and evil because of her family and her story and just because she’s a bad person. Bella enjoys making others suffer. Bella is proud. Bella is a good villain because she doesn’t chase beauty or power like most female villains do. She actually had a rare interest for a woman villain — she enjoyed hurting people. She is racist. But she’s also not the boss. She’s interesting and I love her despite her being evil.
Fleur Delacour is beautiful and elegant but she isn’t scared of Bill’s scars, she isn’t scared of the consequences that hiding Harry, Ron and Hermione might bring in TDH, she speaks her mind and fights when it’s needed. She may be gentle, she may be fantastically pretty, she may be annoyingly proud, but she’s one hell of a character. She has character, not just smarts and looks.
Lavanda Brown and Parvati Patil were both girly and loved gossip but fought bravely against Voldemort nonetheless. They are an example of how being girly doesn’t equal being weak or boring.
Rita Skeeter and Dolores Umbridge are both villains. But they aren’t for Voldemort. And they aren’t similar. JK managed not only to create various and interesting good heroines, she created Bellatrix Lestrange, Dolores Umbridge, Petunia Dursley and Rita Skeeter and gave them absolutely different personalities, motives, stories and looks. Not many authors have many female bad guys. Not many authors can make them this realistic.
JK Rowling writes amazing female characters.
Thanks for coming to my TED talk.
