I love the concept of the Ghost as a haven; it’s a home for a group of people who, for some reason or another, cannot return home. Their fixed location on a planet is denied to them but the Ghost grants them a mobile home, one that can exist on multiple planets depending on need. Not only is it a safe location - a defensible one capable of outmaneuvering Star Destroyers - but it’s also a place of learning and growth. Ezra learns to wield his saber out on the top as Kanan learns to be his master. For some, it heralds the opening of a path back to their people. In the cockpit, Zeb guides the Lasat refugees to their ancestral home. In the main room, Sabine makes the decision to take the dark saber - a decision that will begin the process of reconciliation with her family. For others, it’s a place to establish a new home, as Hera does, seated at the table and acknowledging that the family here on board is enough for her after her childhood home is destroyed. Pranks and artwork, meals and maintenance— it’s here on the Ghost that this ragtag group becomes a family.

Garel was a planet located in the Garel system of the Outer Rim Territories’ Lothal sector that was controlled by the Galactic Empire. Garel was several minutes away from the planet Lothal via hyperspace travel. Several years before the Battle of Yavin, the rebel cell Phoenix Cell established a temporary hiding place on Garel. The rebels were forced to move after the Empire discovered their presence and assembled a fleet to attack them. Many years later, individuals fought to liberate Garel from the yoke of the Galactic Empire.
