olicity top three meme - day 3: brotps that complement olicity

this is one, ngl, I looked forward to writing about, a lot - because I think that with any good romance on television, it’s more believable and more appealing, at least to me, when others are aware of and encourage that romance.

so, here are my top three brotps:

1. joliver/delicity. I mean. lbr, diggle has shipped olicity since, well, 1x15, I like to think, when felicity stood up to oliver and they had that conversation about rebooting oliver’s, ahem, system. dig just watched with this knowing smile in his eyes and I just knew he was in it for the long haul, tbh. and we’ve seen time and time again how much dig cares about oliver and felicity and that he can see that all he wants is for both of them to be happy - and that they can make each other happy. to the point that even when he was (completely justifiably) furious with oliver in 3x23, he was still glad that oliver and felicity were giving it a shot at long last. that, and, I mean, dig just gets both of them. 

like at the end of 2x23, when he says “I’ll give you two a moment” when they’re on lian yu, it’s because felicity has clearly talked to him about it already. the way both oliver and felicity begin to address him more and more as “john” also I think is a sign of their closeness. and even if it’s not in a scene, there are so many other moments where it’s obvious they’ve talked - like when felicity says “john might have told me about your job offer with evil incorporated” to oliver, or the fact that dig most likely told them both together about lyla being pregnant. I just love how much they work well together as (like felicity put it) a well oiled archery machine - but also they are (were?) good friends too. best friends, even.

2. laulicity. it’s no secret I love laurel, and the way their friendship has blossomed this season made me love season three in spite of its flaws. the qualms that some people have about laurel and oliver’s history getting in the way of olicity I see as cancelled out, really, at least for myself, by the fact that if laurel was able to look past her history with oliver in giving sara advice about his tendency to push people away (in 2x16), then she can definitely do the same with felicity. felicity values laurel as a friend this season, and a fellow member of team arrow, as opposed to the badass ada who happens to be oliver’s ex - to the point that the first person felicity goes to when coming back from nanda parbat is laurel. felicity goes to laurel for comfort after having to leave him with the league. and the reason why is because they’re friends. more than that - laurel understands what it’s like to lose oliver.

moreover, when felicity is insistent that oliver’s alive, laurel’s the one to tell her that he’s been back before and he’ll be back again. and laurel and felicity both figure out why they still need to be in the crime-fighting business even without oliver - I think that’s important too, because I think so much of olicity is about felicity’s journey as a character. in this case, his absence and what he taught her (”sometimes, all we can do is just keep pushing forward”) makes her realise that she’s not just doing this because she’s oliver’s partner - she’s a part of team arrow in her own right, too.

3. oliver/roy and felicity/roy. okay, I’m sure this one’s obvious ;) if you followed my arrow rewatch liveblogs, you probably know that I kind of think of oliver and felicity as roy’s parents, and I think that feeds into olicity so well. 3x06 is one of my faves in that respect, because both oliver and felicity are fretting over roy like he’s their son. 

on a serious note, though, I do honestly think the way they both care for roy is so endearing to watch. even when oliver and felicity are arguing in 3x17 and roy says “ray built a supersuit? that’s kind of awesome” and oliver gives him such a dad glare so roy adds “and reckless”. or in 3x13 when roy stands up to oliver after oliver yells at thea and felicity puts him in his place. I think both their dynamics with roy makes for such an interesting atmosphere in scenes of conflict or angst in particular.

roy: “this bike is sick”

felicity: “okay, you are not supposed to be having fun right now”

roy: “sorry”

felicity: “no, sorry is what you’ll be when oliver finds out you took out his motorcycle”

ACTUAL MOTHER FELICITY SMOAK

THEY ARE LITERALLY LIKE MOTHER AND SON AND THIS CONVO IS BASICALLY “YOU WAIT TILL YOUR DAD GETS HOME”

and what makes it worse is that oliver won’t be home for weeks and they’ll think he’s dead :(

also maybe oliver has been watching high school musical with thea or something

he tells felicity “your head’s not in the game” in 3x05

and then in 3x06 he says “get your head in the game” to roy

ALSO I LOVE HOW OLIVER IS LIKE A FATHER TO ROY IN THIS EPISODE

“don’t be sorry. be rested!”

and then FELICITY IS SUCH A MOTHER TO ROY AS WELL

she just IS SO WORRIED ABOUT ROY and is like “are you okay” and my fave, “don’t say stds because that would be crossing a line” HAHA

also, 3x02 will never not kill me

not just because of my darling sara

or felicity saying she was an amazonian warrior and invincible

or my poor baby laurel talking about that stuffed shark 

but because OMG FELICITY IS SUCH A MOTHER TO ROY SERIOUSLY

she’s like “you’d better not be using (my computer) to tweet”

and “oliver needs to see this. you need to show it to him”

seriously they are like actual mother and son and that works perfectly because oliver is like his father figure so together they are like his parents :D
