depression tips™
- shower. not a bath, a shower. use water as hot or cold as u like. u dont even need to wash. just get in under the water and let it run over you for a while. sit on the floor if you gotta.
- moisturize everything. use whatever lotion u like. unscented? dollar store lotion? fancy ass 48 hour lotion that makes u smell like a field of wildflowers? use whatever you want, and use it all over.
- put on clean, comfortable clothes.
- put on ur favorite underwear. cute black lacy panties? those ridiculous boxers u bought last christmas with candy cane hearts on the butt? put em on.
- drink cold water. use ice. if u want, add some mint or lemon for an extra boost.
- clean something. doesn’t have to be anything big. organize one drawer of ur desk. wash five dirty dishes. do a load of laundry. scrub the bathroom sink.
- blast music. listen to something upbeat and dancey and loud, something that’s got lots of energy. sing to it, dance to it, even if you suck at both.
- make food. don’t just grab a granola bar to munch. take the time and make food. even if it’s ramen. add something special to it, like a hard boiled egg or some veggies. prepare food, it tastes way better, and you’ll feel like you accomplished something.
- make something. write a short story or a poem, draw a picture, color a picture, fold origami, crochet or knit, sculpt something out of clay, anything artistic. even if you don’t think you’re good at it.
- go outside. take a walk. sit in the grass. look at the clouds. smell flowers. put your hands in the dirt and feel the soil against your skin.
- call someone. call a loved one, a friend, a family member, call a chat service if you have no one else to call. talk to a stranger on the street. have a conversation and listen to someone’s voice. if you can’t, text or email or whatever, just have some social interaction with another person. even if you don’t say much, listen to them.
- cuddle your pets if you have them/can cuddle them. take pictures of them. talk to them. tell them how u feel, about your favorite movie, a new game coming out.
These are so helpful. I used a lot of them when I was at my lowest, especially the shower one.

“In that way, you’ve acknowledged that you’re unsure, that you don’t know what to do or say. You’ve acknowledged that you see them. They feel seen. They feel heard and acknowledged, which is huge for someone who’s in crisis.” Wentworth Miller | Q&A at Oxford Union | 2016 | x
This is…actually the most beautiful and helpful advice, honestly.

7 Jared Padalecki Quotes That Will Help You Find Your Inner Strength
- “When life beats you down, NEVER give up.”
- “On New Year’s Eve, my dear friend lost his battle with depression … Though he wasn’t the first friend I’ve lost to suicide, I sure hope he’s the last. I wish I had the chance to go back and tell them what they meant to me. I wish I had the chance to beg them to seek help, to keep fighting. I wish they knew that they were surrounded by countless others who struggle on a daily basis.”
- “I hope [the “Always Keep Fighting” campaign] helps people realize that they shouldn’t be ashamed of what they are going through … I hope it helps people take pride in the fight that they have been fighting, and gives them a push to never give up or give in. I hope it helps inspire people to keep fighting. no matter how hard it is.“
- “If you’re out there and need help, please seek it. Be proud of your valiant day-to-day struggle. There is no shame in needing support.”
- “There are some lucky folks out there who don’t struggle with these issues, and I am truly happy for them. But, for those that do, it’s important to approach each day with the mindset of, ‘This might not be easy, but I am going to give it everything I’ve got.’”
- “There’s no shame in having to fight every day, but fighting every day, and presumably, if you’re still alive to hear these words or read this interview, then you are winning your war. You’re here.”
- “Don’t underestimate your own strength. To persevere. To make it through the most difficult of times. And, JUST as importantly, don’t underestimate your ability to help someone ELSE during THEIR most difficult times. Sometimes all it takes is a kind word, or gesture, to help someone make it through their day.”

Been putting together my own list as well. What he says is straight forward and people can relate to.

I STILL LIKE YOU EVEN WHEN YOU’RE SAD: something that bears repeating. Your intrinsic value as a human isn’t diminished just because you’re depressed. You are worthy of love, even though you feel unloveable. I swear.
sometimes I want do things to myself that I shouldn’t be doing but then I remember how Misha Collins once said “be kind to yourself so you can be happy enough to be kind to the world,” and how he overcame homelessness and depression and self harm and started a fucking charity dedicating to doing random acts of kindness and how he is basically the poster-boy for everything will be okay in the end
and even though thinking of that it doesn’t always work It still helps me remind myself to be a better version of myself, to be kind to the people around me and if that doesn’t tell you why Misha Collins is a fucking inspiration then I don’t know what will.
be kind to yourself
having anxiety and depression is like being scared and tired at the same time. it’s the fear of failure but no urge to be productive, and it’s wanting friends while hating socializing. it’s like running a marathon with the willpower of a corpse because you want to get to the end but you also want to sleep and evaporate into the soil and become compost for snails and flowers because then at least you’re useful
Do you ever have those moments where you want to cry but nothing is wrong but you want to cry but you CANT
tfw you realise the reason you had to bite back random sudden tears when trying to be an adult and sorting out electricity things is because you forgot to take your meds
this is a PSA
- my depression does not vanish just because my life is technically ‘going well’
- my depression does not vanish just because good things are happening to/around me
- my depression does not vanish just because i’m surrounded by people who love me
- my depression is an unconditional illness that comes and goes as it pleases, regardless of what might be happening in my life
