I’m so sick of people treating this attack in Istanbul like it happened in the middle of a war zone, it didn’t. It happened in a modern city, in an educated, beautiful, open-minded city. I am sick of people treating Istanbul, and Turkey in general as a place where this is normal and using that as an excuse not to care, it’s not right. What makes the people of Turkey any different? Religion? All I see is people writing off this attack and ignoring it because they refuse to believe that the so-called “Islamic” State would attack Muslim people during Ramadan. They want to believe they only attack western Europeans. They don’t, they have killed more Muslims than people of any other religion. Please stop ignoring that these terrorists are not representative of Islam. Terror has no religion. The place where an attack occurs does not make the lives lost any less relevant. Stop ignoring Istanbul, send your love and prayers because they need it. Pray for Turkey.
I don’t go here but please tell me that there’s going to be a drive to raise money for some kind of lgbtqia charity specifically for poc after what happened in ointb.
a few suggestions (which I have found from google so please anyone step in and suggest others/say which ones are the best):
astraea lesbian foundation for justice (addresses lack of funding for specifically lesbians and woc)
audre lorde project (lgbtqia for poc in nyc)
the trevor project (crisis intervention and suicide prevention for lgbtqia young people - particularly important during times like these)
sylvia rivera law project (focuses on those in the lgbtqia community who are of a racial minority and/or of low income esp for legal services they may need)
the ruth c. ellis center (provides healthcare and housing to homeless lgbt youth esp. black and latinx lgbt youth in detroit)

I don’t know if there’s going to be a sort of fandom-wide drive toward one charity but Australians, if you want to donate more locally, you can donate to Black Rainbow, a crowdfunded charity that is Australia’s only suicide prevention & mental health service for Indigenous LGBTI+ and two-spirit people.
I just want to throw up.
