@therewas-a-girl yeah but like it was clear from the tone of the comment that the person didn't enjoy it and I specifically said in the a/n to only comment if it was something you liked. idc about fandom preferences. I care about people hurting my feelings unnecessarily because of a few lines in a fic that they only don't like due to their own internalised misogyny. and sure maybe I should have tagged it but it's not like laurel is yknow triggering for anyone. she's literally just a character who had a canonical longstanding relationship with oliver and who therefore is part of his past.
Looking at the toxic part of the fandom
@whitecanarrow replied to your post “also it’s kind of sad that the lauryssa tag is only filled with my...”
Ughhh I've been there. It's not a fun time in rare pair land lmao
right? and like my lauryssa fic is basically going unnoticed on ffn (tho that is possibly because I put it as a crossover between the flash and arrow) and it’s making me sad :(
the thing is tho? literally any pairing that isn’t THAT pairing (you know which one I mean) is considered a rarepair tbh, in terms of people who actually make content for it. like, even if people ship it, rarely do they make content for it - I’ve seen that with canarrow, lauryssa, thearoy, merlance, dyla - the list goes on and on. and it makes me sad because I do ship THAT pairing quite a bit (I know you don’t, lol) but it seems to be the only pairing that gets written for and giffed regularly. everything else is just me screaming into the void. sigh.
so I kinda gave up on arrow with season 4 because of everything that happened and also so much fandom drama. I'm really torn with Katie being back for season 6 because I'm glad she is but also it's not Laurel?? Like, this whole black siren thing confuses me, I haven't been in the fandom since s3
hey anon. tbqh, I would say (even as someone watching season 6 for black siren), stay away from @rrow. it’s not a good show anymore. it went to shit as soon as they killed off laurel and I only really watched it to kill time and because I love the characters. it’s not worth your time if you’re a laurel fan, if I’m honest. they screwed her over as laurel and now they’re doing the same with black siren. I watch it because I like ol!c!ty but I get that other people don’t and I understand why they don’t like it. also once I start a show I usually don’t give up on it, and I need to keep up to date with the flarrow verse, including error, however much I might not want to. but if you’ve got out of the fandom, it’s best you stay out because it’s not a nice place to be, and I’m saying that as someone who is on the fringes of the fandom and has seen the worst of both sides. it’s not worth it, anon. but like. if you have any questions about black siren let me know because it is confusing for someone who hasn’t watched the show since season 3. it involves parallel universes so it is a bit difficult to understand.
5 and 8 pretty please
5. Has fandom ever ruined a pairing for you?
I mean, fandom has kind of come close to ruining the main pairing in the arrow fandom for me, 0licity. they hate on the character, laurel lance, that I love most because she’s apparently a barrier to their otp getting together and for a long time after they killed off said character I was very much anti the fandom even though I still liked the pairing. now I liberally use the block button and just try and enjoy the pairing. it usually works, unless I go into op’s laurel lance tag and realise that they hate her, in which case I hit block.
8.Have you received anon hate? What about?
I mean, i’ve been pretty lucky with my anons in that they mostly are from very nice people. I haven’t ever received anything downright rude, or if I do it’s been very forgettable and I’ve just deleted. ooh, there was a bit of discourse in the supergirl fandom about this actress who said she was “non-white” on the show and it turned out she was actually white, and there was a lot of wank about that and I got some curt anons in my inbox telling me she was still a woman of colour, but yeah, it was pretty forgettable tbh.
Salty ask- 4 & 6
4. Do you have a NoTP in your fandom? Are they a popular OTP?
I’ve ranted enough about k@r@mel, so I won’t say any more on that (except they are popular, ugh), but yes. snow@llen is one of those [softly] d o n ‘ t pairings for me. I was okay with them in season 1, but I can see now how much the shippers like to sideline iris and how the pairing has at its roots a really racist basis that I think is despicable. and especially now we see just how much barry loves iris in season 2 and 3, and we see how violent savitar has been towards her and I just - wince so much seeing people ship it.
6. Has fandom ever made you enjoy a pairing you previously hated?
I never hated it, but the 0licity fandom always made laur!ver out to be this awful terrible taboo pairing and I kind of went with it at first because that’s what you do when you’re a shipper. you flock with the masses. once I left the fandom and started making decisions of my own I saw the laur!ver fandom has its good eggs and the pairing is actually a great one that is full of feels and hurt and angst, which I am so here for. also, seeing what olinah is like in the comics has made me much more receptive towards the pairing. so yeah.
@thomasflint replied to your post “@thomasflint replied to your post “*” I wanna say...”
Ive honestly enjoyed them from the comfort of my own little corner. i cant stand the fandom not just theirs but the a*row fandom in general.
yeah, I mean, for the most part, I’ve stayed to my little corner too and it’s been great. but since venturing back into writing ol!c!ty fic again, I’ve found my fics being reblogged by people who didn’t exactly say the most desirable things about my fave back in season 4 and I’m not sure how I feel about that.
I can’t stand the @rrow fandom either. it sucks and is full to the brim with toxicity and vitriol.

THAT SONG IS A DRUG THO
IT SO IS. like it’s so addictive? I keep listening to it? it’s so fucking catchy I cannot
@thomasflint replied to your post “*”
I wanna say this surprises me but unfortunately it does not. They just keep finding new lows to fall into tbh
things like this remind me why I left the fandom in the first place.
@millennialfangirl replied to your post “*”
It's a witch hunt and beyond petty.
my thoughts exactly. and all it does tbh is make the fandom look even pettier and more ridiculous than it already is.
@yellowflicker09011996 you’re fine. I totally get why you would want to know more, even if just for yourself. I just feel like this fandom is too toxic to interact with like normal people tbh.
@salt-throne saaaaame. I can’t believe there was ever a time I followed anyone who was anti laurel. it makes me sick tbh.
@salt-throne I think any decent person would be embarrassed by what the arrow fandom has become and the bad eggs on both sides. but my issue is, one side always seems to be made out to be the bad guy and I don't think that's fair. esp when the trolls are obvious on the laurel side, and we know who they are and what they do. whereas with the ol1c1ty fandom there are big name blogs out there, one who has a direct line to guggenheim and gets fed spoilers by him, and the hate and vitriol they spew goes unnoticed or gets brushed aside because they're such good *shippers*. that's what bothers me. so yeah. I get why you don't follow that many @rrow blogs. I don't either. I'm v careful about who I follow and tbh that is what the unfollow and block buttons are for.
@whitecanarrow lmfao yes same. I want to be on the list and then people get the shock of their lives while hatereading to find I actually still ship it lol. but yeah there are people like you who are legit anti ol1c1ty but not necessarily a laurel stan and they would totally miss you because of that I think :P

honestly that rl sucks that u feel/felt like ur cheating by writing other pairings bc that's honestly.... it's terrible lmao tbh
ah it’s fine. now I revel in it, like I said, so it’s glorious writing anything but ol!c!ty the vast majority of the time. except for the fact that I don’t get anywhere near as many notes, which sucks. but I count myself lucky because at least I’m away from a toxic fandom.
