Ok. Based on the inside the xover itunes special, it was Berlanti's idea last yr to have this yr's xover end on a double wedding because he thought that was the only way to up the stakes. So the whole thing is a manufactured plot to this endgame, and the xover had to get olicity from pt a to the pt b of marriage within 4 eps since they already established the wa wedding. They used F to do it since she's an easy target. Plus the lack of "i do" for wa is a plot pt for later in the Flash season.
well, I think that could have still been possible, for them to go from point a to point b (I was thinking maybe felicity doesn’t want to make it official yet because she doesn’t want to impose anything on william, which is definitely a valid reason lbr, and then point b could have been her telling oliver that and oliver assuring her that he doesn’t expect anything from her wrt william and it’s enough for her to just be in his life) with regards to marriage. and then what could have happened was oliver and felicity be groomsman and maid of honour for the wa wedding officiated by diggle, and after wa do their vows and diggle pronounces them husband and wife, in a more intimate setting (say, in bed), felicity could then ask oliver to marry her - without making it seem like she was trying to upstage wa. that could have totally happened, and barry could have still forgotten to say “I do” and it would have been a lot better because that way oliver and felicity could simply have their ceremony and reception in the next episode as planned.
but yeah. I am really fucking sick of eps saying that they want to up the stakes because that just results in bullshit plots like savitar plotting to kill iris or the grave theory in season 4 of arrow. I’m not here for it at all.
but once again, as you know, the shipping issues were not my main concerns with the crossover. it was everything else, from the nazis to the blatant racism and antisemitism and queerphobia, that had me throwing up in my mouth.
