SUMMARY:
Extension of the desk scene from 3x01. Kate and Anthony talk of duty and debate whether they are truly absconding from it.
“I've never seen you happier than when you were away from running this place,” Kate told her husband. Her hand found his, almost of its own accord, her fingers playing with Anthony’s. Kate’s thumb brushed over the signet ring on his little finger, and up close, she could see a tiny splatter of ink on his palm, smudged and barely there, and the smallest of calluses on his middle finger, no doubt from his quill. She gazed up at him, and it was impossible to admire how the sunlight kissed his jaw and the tiny dimples that formed as his lips curved into a smile for her. He looked beautiful like this, his shirt sleeves rolled up, collar turned up, skin soft in the sun. “So why not put ourselves first for once and extend the honeymoon?”
It had been on her mind all day. He had been on her mind all day, but that was not so unusual. What felt strange was what she was proposing to Anthony – and yet when she said the words aloud, it felt like the only logical course of action.
Anthony's brow crinkled for a moment, and Kate knew he was taken aback, but then his smile grew wider as his grip on her hand tightened. “Are you quite sure?” he asked.
Kate got to her feet, pushing aside her chair, winding her arms around Anthony's neck. “We have our lives to be viscount and viscountess, Anthony,” she said, kissing him, and it was such a relief, feeling his lips on hers. It had surely only been hours since they had last kissed, but somehow it still had felt like forever, and in that time, her hunger for him had grown, sated only somewhat from the taste of his lips. Kate had felt like this since they returned from their honeymoon – that despite having her husband to herself for six months, there was nowhere else she would rather be than with him. Perhaps it was a newlywed feeling that hadn’t worn away yet… but if they were to embark on an extended honeymoon, Kate would not have to worry about sharing Anthony with anyone else. If he were agreeable, that was. “For now,” she continued, “the only duty that interests me is starting our family.”
