Although, now that I'm looking at this today, I guess Memories would have been a really clear choice. Huh.

CATWS 10th Anniversary | REJECTS! » Prompt: "But, I knew him." » Title: but i knew him » Reason for Rejection: This is so fucking messy. I hate it. The concept seemed solid, but trying to tell the story felt like it needed a new image in every single panel and that looks so messy with these. If you're unfamiliar with the originals, they are usually all one or two images, sometimes one image in different zoom levels. I try to emulate that somewhat, but it doesn't always work out. Like right now. But, I loved the idea of pairing that last line with Bucky reflecting that he can't believe the things he's seeing or feeling, that the people he trusts are telling him he's wrong. But, he knew him.

CATWS 10th Anniversary | REJECTS! » Prompt: none » Title: he's a smooth operator » Reason for Rejection: I loved this concept but the shots of Bucky jumping on the car to shoot Nat just do not line up with the previous shots and they look messy and I hate it. Which I find very frustrating because I thought this was funny as fuck. I spent an embarrassing amount of time trying to piece together different shots into a usable amalgamation of the various scenes, but it didn't work. Such a bummer.

CATWS 10th Anniversary | REJECTS! » Prompt: none » Title: the road to hell is paved with kicking your ass » Reason for Rejection: I mean, if anybody deserves it, it's Brock Rumlow, right? And, yet, (spoilers), he lives. Can you spoiler a 10 year old film? Anyway, I didn't really have anywhere to put this. All my STRIKE attempts had already ended up very Brock heavy and he featured in couple HYDRA and Steve Rogers ones, as well (including another elevator scene), so this happened to be the one that got cut. They're making some epic faces in it, tho.

CATWS 10th Anniversary | REJECTS! » Prompt: Devotion » Title: just your hand on my body again » Reason for Rejection: I actually really liked this one and I'm happy I still get to share it with you guys. The reason it didn't make the original cut is because 1.) the concept was too much like i stopped remembering the exact weight of your hand and now i only know it with a knife, 2.) the art/layout is basically a switch of the safe word is jersey, and 3.) all of these were going to be posted the same day. So, I basically figured that I needed to pare it down and since this competed with two others, I cut it. I really, really like it, though.

CATWS 10th Anniversary | REJECTS! » Prompt: Helicarrier, Favourite Fight » Title: we call this a midwest goodbye » Reason for Rejection: This is easily one of my favourite scenes in CATWS so I ended up making a bunch of strips around this fight. I wanted to play with it a little more and adjust some of the blocking, but the gif sets are so time consuming that I ended up letting it go instead. A very similar still set was completed, though, called the good news is it can't be illegal if there's no word for it. I think they call this killing your darlings.

CATWS 10th Anniversary | REJECTS! » Prompt: none » Title: untitled (working title: trade off) » Reason for Rejection: I actually really liked the comp of this one. It laid out so nice, I really didn't have to fiddle with it at all--this is cropped straight from the 4k screenshots, iirc. That said, I wasn't sure where to use it--it didn't have a prompt--and I had already made dozens of strips at this point, so I let it go. It's fun to see the destruction Steve has wrought, tho.

CATWS 10th Anniversary | REJECTS! » Prompt: Disguise » Title: she's gonna bite someone » Reason for Rejection: Okay, legitimately, the more I look at this one, the more I like it and think I made a mistake cutting it. Look at Nat. She is going to bite someone just to see red. I love her, my darling girl. But, then I remember how burnt out I was on Romanorogers and I remember why I cut it. I just can't see them as a couple. Those are bros.

I kept it's what they call a catch-22 and I don't know. I think they were all worthy of a sensible chuckle. I may have made a mistake.

CATWS 10th Anniversary | REJECTS! » Prompt: Steve Rogers » Title: it is a disney property » Reason for Rejection: So, I made this because it's kind of topical, but then I felt bad implying that Steve either caused or was happy in any way about the death of Sarah Rogers because I have an unusual amount of affection for a character that wasn't even in the films. Sarah Rogers deserved better.

CATWS 10th Anniversary | REJECTS! » Prompt: Favourite Fight - Helicarrier Duel » Title: untitled (working title: terrorist, alternative to how many gunshot wounds is an orgasm?) » Reason for Rejection: I made two versions of what was originally called terrorist and asked Discord to help me pick one. This one was very messy, with a lot of blurred movement and unclear details, whereas the other was crisper and looked more clean. In the end, the winner was how many gunshot wounds is an orgasm? and I really think it was a good call. What do you think?

CATWS 10th Anniversary | REJECTS! » Prompt: Natasha Romanoff » Title: hands off the boots » Reason for Rejection: This was an alternative to as soon as he's dead I can be on my way. The first two panels are the same, but the third is a different angle of Nat garroting Bucky. I liked that this angle showed the car they were next to/on top of which connected back to the car in the first two panels, but wifey liked the other angle better. A happy wife makes a happy life.
