RIOT NOT QUIET: Since the 90s the riot grrrl movement has encouraged women not to be silent. It strives to educate, empower and support females in a discriminating, hurtful society. The movement challenges gendered sociopolitical issues as well as everyday sexism, and encourages women to take ownership of their bodies and be comfortable within them. Our experiences are VALID and REAL.

One Instagram celebrity is finally speaking out in a very bold way. User Essena O’Neill, an 18-year-old from Australia, is sick of the false facades she and other Insta stars have been putting up. She is so sick of it that she’s speaking out, editing all of her captions to be more truthful, and deleting images. Essena, who currently has almost 600 thousand followers, has said she’s been living a fake life to look good online – and she’s been completely unhappy doing it.
So, she’s speaking up. Like I said, she has changed the captions on her photos to reflect the truth behind them. She’s shattering the “perfect” and unattainable views we all have of Instagram bloggers who have a lot of followers, and it is beyond interesting. It’s also inspiring. So, want to know how to become Instagram famous? Here are 16 secrets no one ever talked about – until now. And just to be fair, we (the gurl team) added in the fake photos we’ve posted too, alongside Essena. This will make you think of Instagram totally differently.

Maisie is a total badass who isn’t afraid to voice her opinions while also managing to be one of the sweetest actresses I’ve ever interviewed. I took her interview, along with what I learned from the leaders speaking at the #LikeAGirl Confidence Summit, and put together 7 secrets to being more confident that you guys need to read. Because as frustrating as it may be to read that confidence is one of the most important things ever, it’s also true.
Hot on the tails of the all-female Ghostbusters remake, the writers of Broad City are in the works to pen a female version of 21 Jump Street. Lucia Aniello and Paul Downs are working on the script as part of the 21 Jump Street expansion. Fingers crossed that Abbi Jacobson and Ilana Glazer from Broad City will actually be in this because that would be incredible.
While I am super excited for this news and still geeking out over the Ghostbusters news, there are just not enough female-lead movies.
We live in a man’s world, which is quite silly because women make up half the population. We live in a world where women are not equal to men, where women make 73 cents to the dollar, where minority women even less, and where men (especially white men) dominate almost every industry. It’s 2015, you guys. This is crazy.
I’ve been thinking about a lot of things that would be better with women instead of men. There are so many professions and situations that would benefit from having women in charge, and here are just a few..
Our graphic designer, Sarah, basically celebrated her birthday playing softball in a ball gown👗💪⚾️ #thisiswhatafeministlookslike
Our #wcw is computer scientist Margaret Hamilton, who's team wrote the self-testing code for the Apollo 11 Moon landing. She's credited with coining the term "software engineer".

Thank you so much for the tips on how to ask for birth control! I asked my mom and it went better than expected :)
I have a secret guilty pleasure: American Ninja Warrior. My brother and I used to watch the original Ninja Warrior together, and my obsession obviously carried over to the American version. I love this show. It’s amazing. Some people do it as sort of a joke, but many people take it very seriously, which it the best thing. These obstacles require an amazing amount of strength. I was even more excited when Kacy Catanzaro became the first woman ever in history to complete the qualifier. She’s moving on to go up against Mt. Midoriyama! This woman is a total badass, and I have a new girl crush and spirit animal.
