When Maleficent came out, I’m pretty sure we were all shocked by how hard anyone could empathize with an evil Disney villain. Girl had her own movie, and it was a great one at that. What made it so different was that we usually only get one side of the story when it comes to Disney movies – and I think it’s about time that some of the Disney villains get their own movies too. We’re missing out on some key perspectives and a whole lot of context. Take Maleficent, for example: remember how gutted you were when they cut her wings? Who knew she had that kind of love for Aurora? Why were missing that key part of the story? It made me want to re-watch Sleeping Beauty all over again so I knew why Maleficent did what she did. Evil can be endearing, especially in Disney movies.
