Over the past week or so, the Internet has collectively been losing it–in a good way–over a nineteen-year-old model named Barbie Ferreira. It’s not totally hard to see why–Ferreira is a “curve” model, meaning that she doesn’t identify as plus-size but rather with her shape over numerical sizing, and she was just featured in Aerie’s, American Eagle’s lingerie offshoot, latest campaign. While Aerie has been making strides in terms of body positivity for about two years now (they stopped retouching their models in January 2014) they’ve been critiqued in the past for only featuring models whose bodies already adhere to what’s already expected with a lingerie model.
Girls with curves have had it up to here with people telling us that our shape needs to be smoothed over, squeezed smaller, or draped in tent-like cuts of fabric. Everything I have read about learning how to style for my body shape has gone like this: “wear black, a-line is nice, idk put a belt on it, wear a big chunky necklace to distract from your big chunky thighs.”
Curvy girls come in all sizes and shapes from Beyonce to Tess Holliday. We have big boobs and no butts, big butts and small waists, no hourglass waist but killer legs and everything in between. Yes, some of these fashion rules work for some body types, but I’m done pretending that all curves flow the same.
I’m also done pretending that fashion rules are meant to be followed. If you like it, wear it. If it makes you uncomfortable, don’t do it. But, I love stripes, prints, and bodycon and no fake fashion police is gonna stop me (and they shouldn’t stop you either.
If there’s one insecurity the majority of plus size women I know have, it’s their stomach. I can relate. Mine bulges. It rolls. It has stretch marks. It’s definitely not flat. In the past, I’ve hated it for all of those things. But I’ve come to accept — no, celebrate — it as big and beautiful. It’s not always easy. And I don’t accept my stomach every day. But most of the time, I’m feelin’ my look! And you should, too. No matter your body size.
Here are the facts: First, arm fat isn’t a flaw. It’s something we all have. No need to hide it away. Second, it’s freakin’ hot in the summer! And you definitely don’t deserve to be sweating up a storm in arm-covering cardigans. It’s just not practical for the summer swelter!
For years, I only wore jeans in the summer. Part of my reason for doing this was because I hated how ANY shorts looked on me as a plus size chick. They were always too short, made my crotch area look super weird, and caused too much chub rub to even be worth the pain. So jeans it was. Believe me, I was sweating buckets June through August.
That is, until I acquired several short hacks that made summer time a little more comfortable.

Festival season has officially begun, with Coachella kicking things off this past weekend. Whether you are actually attending a festival this year or just experiencing serious FOMO while watching all the fun on livestream, we can all agree that festival style absolutely slays. But don’t worry. You don’t have to actually attend a festival to rock some killer concert-inspired style. And, believe it or not, you can even rock festival garb while being plus-sized! Amazing! Revolutionary! I know.

Girls, there is a totally untrue rumor going around that we need to dispel right now. For some reason, some people are telling plus girls that they can’t wear stripes. The reason? Apparently, striped patterns make plus-size girls look even larger due to the illusion they create on your figure.
