As someone who is super excited to be done with this year, I feel conflicted about New Year’s Eve. On the one hand, I literally do not want to spend another second in 2016, which will go down in history as the worst year of all time (probably). On the other hand, celebrating New Year’s has always been a bit difficult for me because I have such an introverted personality.
I’m not saying that every show on television has to be the most realistic thing out there, but it would be great, for once, to see one realistic portrayal of New Year’s Eve.
Guys, we’re just one day away from 2016. Can you believe it?!
When thinking about New Year’s resolutions, we often think about the things we can do to better ourselves. There’s definitely nothing wrong with that, but for those of us who are coupled up, it’s smart to think about the things that can also better your relationship. If you’re seriously committed to a significant other, your life no longer only revolves around you, so it just makes sense for some of your New Year’s resolutions to reflect that change as well.
Okay, real talk: We need to stop pretending New Year’s Eve is a thing that we’re looking forward to. New Year’s Eve is the worst. There is nothing farther apart than your New Year’s Eve expectations v. reality. It’s like Valentine’s Day for single people – the pressure is too real. It’s the biggest party of the year! Everyone is excited! You should have the perfect midnight kiss! It’s the most fun ever! What’s not to love? The answer: everything.
Instead of making the same resolution you make every year, why not try something new? Instead of a broad resolution, try a yearly challenge. Challenges are a little bit more structured and specific, which can make them seem less intimidating and more fun. The Internet offers tons of options, from reading challenges that will introduce you to new books to organizing challenges that will keep your room clean to grateful challenges that will make you happy. Being an introvert in a world that seems made for extroverts can be really hard. Societal expectations tell me that I should love going out to crowded places with a big group of friends, that I have to be outgoing and direct in order to be successful, and that I be friendly instead of wanting to spend time by myself. Figuring out how to be myself is difficult. That’s why I need these New Year’s resolutions for introverts just as much as anyone else!
