Despite the effort of many, gender roles still run strong in our society. This means that there are certain stereotypes about how all girls act that I’m sure many of you are aware of. Traditional femininity translates into being a “girly-girl.” When you think of someone who is very “girly,” you probably think of long, luscious hair, curled eyelashes, a perfect pout, a pretty dress, high heels, and, more than likely, the color pink. I personally picture Cher from Clueless or Regina George from Mean Girls. Girly-girls know how to dress, how to flirt, how to do a smokey eye without looking like a raccoon, etc.

Girls are not all built the same way. As much as the world tries to push frilly lace and Barbies us, not everyone fits into the gender norm (Glitter just doesn’t do it for all of us, yaknowwhatimean?). Some girls really enjoy the process of getting ready in the morning, and the rest of us feel that it is a waste of precious time. One way isn’t better than the other, it just becomes a problem when a certain lifestyle is pushed on you.#NotCool
