As a kid, I always thought that Black History Month was important, but I also thought that it was only meant to focus on reflection. We were to look back at our grim slave origins, learn about older events and people, like Harriet Tubman and Martin Luther King Jr. It was about learning about the black people who changed the world and thinking, “Wow, at least things aren’t so bad anymore.” Well, that last bit is definitely emphasized in school, and when you’re a young black kid in a mostly white school like I was, you’re inclined to believe that…until you get older, start experiencing racism first hand, and realize that while some things are surely better than they used to be, there are many problems that still make it tough to navigate this world as a black person.

Lying to your parents. It’s one of those things that, like waxing your eyebrows or downloading the Tidal app solely so you can listen to “Life Of Pablo,” nobody really wants to do, but sometimes, just has to be done. Maybe you’re going over to a guy’s house and you know there won’t be parents there, but you know your parents will never let you go if you’re “unsupervised.” Or you got a bad grade on your semester report that you aren’t quite ready for your parents to find out about yet–it’s not even a real grade yet, technically–so, you lie. Or “mislead”  or “massage the truth,” as Jack Donaghy would say, if you prefer a gentler term for it.

This world is weird, and celebrities are weird, and that means that there were a lot of weird pop culture moments that happened this past year (just like any other year, honestly). And you don’t want to forget about those things, because these are stories we should be telling our grandchildren in fifty years (when the word “daddy” has been taken away because we’re all horrified at ourselves). We’ll never forget that 2015 was the year the entire United States of America fought over the color of a dress, but we just might forget that Kim Kardashian tried to blame her toddler for posting a throwback bikini shot of her on Instagram, and honestly I can’t let that happen. So, here are 26 of the weirdest pop culture moments of 2015 you forgot about

Well, I don’t know about you guys, but I’m kind of in the mood to set something on fire and watch it burn. For, like, eight whole days (and nights). And eat some fried potatoes and chocolate that tastes suspiciously of tinfoil while I do so. But not, like, in a weird way or anything–it’s simply the reason for the season.

The Hanukkah season, that is.
