What IS a pumpkin spice latte anyway?!
For the most part, being alive is pretty cool. It’s cool to be awake, it’s cool to do things throughout the day, and it’s especially cool to crawl back into bed at night after a long day of doing things. But, you know, considering how objectively nice being alive and awake is, it is so hard–so, so hard–to actually wake up in the morning.
Before I explain why I think coffee is overrated, I should make one thing clear: I actually love coffee. From the moment I first tried it (doused with milk and three sugars), I just fell in love. I loved that it could keep me alert throughout the day and having just a few sips of it could instantly put me in a better mood, which was awesome. But you know what? While I understand that this tasty beverage has a lot of benefits, like improving your energy levels and reducing the risk of cancer, I’ve also noticed that people tend to treat it like it’s the air they breathe. And that’s just ridiculous, because coffee is just coffee.
Do you like feeling awake throughout the day? How about drinking some good ol’ fashioned soda? Coffee? Tea? I enjoy all of those things because they all have one thing in common… Caffeine. Caffeine is a crucial part of my morning and also a crucial part of my day. As soon as I wake up every morning, I drink a giant cup of green tea, then throughout the day I either drink more tea or some soda. I am most definitely a serial caffeine drinker… Until this week. This week I cut out caffeine 100 percent. Did going caffeine-free completely ruin my week or did I find a spiritual decaffeinated awakening? You’ll just have to see!
Today is National Coffee Day, the best day ever!!!!! Can you tell I’ve had a lot of caffeine? Great! I’ve been celebrating all day! Coffee is one of my greatest loves. I drink it multiple times a day and will never turn down a chance to go to a coffee shop. That’s why I love coffee dates. Even if the date sucks, I still get coffee so it’s still a win. Also, coffee dates are awesome because they’re not as awkward as having a meal with someone you don’t really know, and you’re in a great setting to have a good conversation.
