Prom dress shopping is super exciting and fun. You know, when you can actually find a dress in your size!

We all know finding a killer prom dress is hard as it is. But finding a killer prom dress as a plus girl is damn near impossible! It isn’t anything us plus ladies can’t handle, thought. I mean, we deal with difficult shopping excursions on the regular, not just at prom season. We got this, ladies!

The other day when I signed onto Twitter, I was bombarded with a bunch of tweets that said things like, “Finally! A plus-sized model is being featured in the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue!” I was super excited, and obviously looked it up. Headlines on Google had similar statements about how plus-sized model Ashley Graham was going to be featured in the famous Sports Illustrated issue in a bikini. Amazing! I clicked the link to find out exactly what was going on.
Then I read about it, and I sat there wondering if I was missing something...

We’re all about empowerment here. Sometimes you have those days when you just need a little push to let you know how awesome you are as a woman. This Girl Can is a campaign that aims to empower and inspire women regardless of size, shape, color, or whatever. The campaign was developed by Sport England to celebrate women being active and awesome and to encourage women to not be afraid of doing anything. They just released this amazingly empowering new vieo that you HAVE to watch.

We’re all about body positivity here at Gurl, especially when it comes to our girls who are plus size. Yes, every body can be shamed, but larger bodies get the brunt of the insults. If they aren’t told that their bodies aren’t acceptable when they try to find clothes that fit in their favorite store, they’re told so to their faces by total jerks or even friends and family in well meaning but disastrous ways. We don’t live in a world that tells bigger girls that they’re allowed to exist, and that’s effed up.
Whether you or a friend is all about embracing her plus size body–wether through fat-acceptance or the body positivity movement–then y’all are going to love getting these rad gifts during the holidays. Here are 10 gifts that every self-loving plus size girl will love. Oh, and for those who aren’t quite ready to embrace themselves yet, there are a few goodies in here for them, too!
