Let’s talk about STDs. Mainly, let’s talk about how no one really ever wants to talk about them. Despite the fact that pretty much anyone can get an STD–you aren’t a “slut” or anything if you happen to get one, let’s get that out of the way right now– it kind of seems like no one really ever wants to mention the word “STD”  for fear that it will imply that they, themselves, have an STD.

If I had a dollar for every time I read a question about discharge from one of you guys, I would actually be a millionaire. I’m serious. I totally get it – discharge is confusing and can be scary if you don’t know what’s going on. Unfortunately, most sexual education classes don’t teach enough about what’s coming out of your vay-jay-jay, and it’s a subject no one really wants to talk about over coffee, so we’re left kind of clueless.

That’s why Gurl is here! We talk about discharge like it’s no big deal, and we’re more than happy to help you guys get more comfortable with your bodies and figure out what’s going on. Here is your guide to every kind of vaginal discharge you might experience, and what it means along with what you should do.

Eating too much sugar: You might not realize it, but what you eat can affect your down there area. Too much sugar causes blood sugar spikes, which means there's a lot of glucose in your system - and yeast thrives in these conditions. Things get even worse when you drink a lot of coffee. It's hard to avoid sugar, but doctors say it's the worst in the morning, so try to avoid too much sugar in the AM.

When that time of the month rolls around, what do you usually reach for? Pads? Tampons? Probably. Menstrual cup? Probably not. In fact, you might not even know what a menstrual cup is or you’ve only heard about it from the internet, or that one friend who has a menstrual cup and won’t shut up about it. If the last scenario is familiar to you, you should probably know that this friend has a pretty good reason to be amped.
Menstrual cups aren’t for everyone–I, myself, am reluctant to give up tampons–but they’re definitely something you should know about, especially if it has the potential to change the ease of your period.
If you’re intrigued, here’s everything you need to know about menstrual cups. Take note, y’all!

So, what’s the deal with lube?
I never thought I’d ever write a sentence like that but hey, it’s a legitimate question for a lot of people who are new and familiar with the whole, you know, sexual stimulation thing. It’s funny because lube is still treated as this awkward piece of the sexual puzzle that people don’t really want to talk about despite the fact that it’s so…harmless. It’s not like it’s a glow in the dark dildo that sings show tunes, it’s lube, a substance that has one purpose and one purpose only: Making it easier to slide things in and around sexy body parts.
You don’t have to be having sex to use lube either. So if you’re curious about lube and its many wonders, check out the rest of this post. We’ll tell you everything you need to know.

Nobody really talks about vaginal discharge. Why? Well, in the grand scheme of vaginal news, it’s not really a very sexy topic. It’s not as interesting as periods, and it’s definitely not the most thrilling thing to hear about when you’re learning about puberty. Nobody is talking about their vaginal discharge with their friends or anything like that either. And yet, everyone with a vagina has to deal with it. When you think about it, discharge might be one of the most taboo topics about the human body. Think about it, people are more likely to talk about their bowel movements than the mucus-like substance coming out of their vagina everyday!
Maybe the lack of discussion about it explains why so many people are so uninformed and confused by their vaginal discharge. If you’re one of those people, it’s time to get schooled. So here’s everything you need to know about vaginal discharge. You’re definitely going to pay more attention to that weird stuff coming out of your vag from now on.

Your Period Stops in the Water: That if you get in the water while on your period, nothing will come out because it stops the bleeding momentarily. I used to believe this, luckily it wasn't me who got in the pool while on her period and had everyone screaming at her for being disgusting. Still feel bad for the poor girl.

"I don't sleep completely naked. I usually wear boyshort undies OR basketball shorts. No shirt or bra and only one thing around the waist. It's just more comfortable that way. Plus what if there's a murderer in the house and I have to run outside? I want a lil' something on. As for worry about discharge or period, another good reason to wear a little something on bottom."
