Of all the variations of the plot “Tech is clone CX2” in fanfiction, I like best the ones where the memories of his past life are partly or totally gone, but Tech still retains his personality, something unique and stubborn, which helps him to break the conditioning and reform ties with his family. It feels like a replay of an ancient trope “came back different” of sorts.
There is a lot of grief and sadness in these stories, of course, but not all tears are evil, as the wise man said. Death is a life-changing experience, after all, and paying a price for coming back is natural. Also, I enjoy how the love of Tech's siblings shows up as they accept him despite his change and help him to adjust to his new old life.
In addition, this plot inevitably reflects on “would you still love me if I was a worm?” what makes a person this particular person, dear to someone, even if they no longer share the same crucial memories? I even feel a bit cheated if Tech/CX2 comes to an understanding with his family via regaining his memories—though emotionally I'm of course happy for all of them.
