for a literature essay im writing im inexplicably looking up a lot of articles abt private pools and american culture and now im curious.
i'm dutch, and to me a private pool seems like the height of ostentatious luxury. i don't know anyone in my country who has a private pool, i grew up swimming in public pools or whatever random body of water was nearby, lakes or rivers or canals or whatever. american media has so many private pools though, are they really that common?
#yes they're pretty common#even in the northeast which syays relatively cool compared to a lot of the country#but the summers in the us are pretty hot i guess so lots of people have them idk#but it was for my ~rich~ friends who went on family vacations every year (aka upper middle class not actually rich lol)#in my state basically nobody has air conditioning so when it gets hot there's no escape#i used to walk almost half a mile to my friend's house who had a pool when it got hot in the summer as a kid#and if she wasn't home i walked a little farther tofrieother friend woth a pool's house lol#anyway#im sure it varies by region but i always thought it was crazy people had them in my state bc its expensive and so much maintenance#and you only use it like 2-3 months of the year lol#the closest natural body of water or public pool was not remotely within walking distance as a kid and also public pools cost money
