The 3rd film adaptation (and first with sound) of Robert Louis Stevenson's 1883 novel was released in Boston and Los Angeles on 16 August 1934.
Directed by Victor Fleming, Treasure Island reunited Wallace Beery and Jackie Cooper for the 3rd time (after 1931's The Champ and 1933's The Bowery), and MGM had high expectations for the expensive production. Despite being the studio's 3rd highest-grossing film of the year, the studio was disappointed.
