I'm actually crying with happiness right now.
Fuck yea!
red white & royal blue ± george villiers references I feel that James I, who fell madly in love with a very fit and exceptionally dim knight at a tilting match and immediately made him a gentleman of the bedchamber (a real title), would take mercy upon my particular plight.
He did that one too? Fucking hell. And this is old.
He plays the piano too?? Goddamn it. This is so good.
That is so Oscar Wilde, love it.
The seriousness of this scene is slightly undermined by the portraits of Henry's esteemed ancestors.
ACD is probably the only one who could save US politics at this point.
Love the subtle realism in the details.
Took me a while to realize that Taylor also was in Minx, a show I absolutely adore. He played the himboest himbo who ever himboed so convincingly I didn't even recognize him. Although, he played a man deeply in love and also showcased his glorious ass so it wasn't that different, I guess. XDD
This is such a wild coincidence, that Nicolas is playing George Villers. Twice a Prince and now a Duke. Not bad. I was wondering for years why nobody made a show about King James and his boy yet and there it is! There's always more gay history to be made.
There's more on that in the book too:
One thing I like about this movie is the way it took themes from the book and reinterpreted them. The original scene in the V&A museum focuses on a certain statue.
However, they filmed this scene in a different room of the museum. And I dunno maybe they weren't allow to use that room. More likely it seems they just didn't have the time to explain why that statue was gay so instead they just filmed in front of the gayest statue in existence - Theseus and the Minotaur. Iconic.
objectively the scene where alex was about to tell henry he loved him was hilarious. fellas you ever have a moment so gay you try to drown yourself
