BRANDON LEE as ERIC DRAVEN THE CROW (1994)
Happy Devils Night
Since I just watched The Crow 1994, I'm realizing I really liked Brandon Lee's voice and how kind? Gentle? He made Eric Draven feel. Like it contrasted very well with him getting his vengeance.
Like when he talks with Sarah or the cop (dunno his name), I'm just reminded that he was just an innocent guy that loved his fiancee, y'know?
LMAOO EVERYONE NEEDS TO SEE THIS
the main problem people have with this reboot is that making it is just plain disrespectful. brandon lee literally put his heart and soul into this role and ended up dying for it. for all his life he had been in his father’s shadow and this movie was supposed to be his breakout role and help him step into the light, but it ended up being his last act due to negligence.
the whole setting of the movie based on the trailer just doesn’t look right. the movie had this unique 90’s gothic setting and i get that it’s a remake and they’re trying to go for something modern but that just takes away from the crow’s entire charm. even the soundtrack sounds horrible and don’t even mention the character designs… there’s no soul in the movie.
then there’s also the fact that in the original, eric and shelly are completely innocent, they fought for what was wrong and ended up being killed for it. in the reboot trailer it seems like they both were inmates and met in prison?? huh???? the whole point is that they’re completely normal people that get something terrible done to them. that’s why the crow brought eric back in the first place.
there’s also supposed to be a clear distinction between eric before he died and after. in the original it’s very obvious how much he has changed. he went from a normal guy to a man mad with grief. but in this reboot he just kinda… looks and acts the same? he goes from a wannabe soundcloud rapper to a wannabe soundcloud rapper with bad makeup on, there seems to be no personality change. in the comics there’s multiple people that become a crow, not just eric draven. they could’ve used one of those characters to continue the story.
i know you can’t judge an entire movie based on a short trailer but just the circumstances surrounding the first movie is enough of a reason to not like it. even the author of the comic didn’t want to remake it cause he himself thought it was unnecessary and disrespectful but he ended up working with them anyway so they didn’t completely butcher it. many reboots have been made throughout the years of various films but there’s a reason people are SO pissed off with this specific one. because, unlike other reboots, this movie had it’s lead actor die on set while filming. the crow is like a memorial to brandon lee, they weren’t even planning on releasing it but his family and fiancé encouraged them. brandon died only a few weeks before his wedding, similar to how his character died only a day before his. the movie is literally dedicated to him and his fiancé and it states that at the end of the movie.
the original crow is a constant reminder of the tragedy and what could’ve been which is why it’s so bittersweet, which further adds to the setting and overall mood of the film. the creator, actors of the original movie and even brandon lee’s friends and family didn’t want the reboot to be made and if that’s not telling then i don’t know what is. i do feel for bill skarsgård and the rest of the cast, they must’ve worked so hard only to be criticized but this reboot should never have been made in the first place, because it’ll never live up to the original.
I feel like the crow reboot could have been great if they should made them original characters and not Eric and Shelly.
Completely agree. Why they’d had to name them Eric and Shelly, probably because they thought no one would be interested in new characters. (We would have been)
The reason I don’t like this at all is because it’s just nothing like Eric and Shelly. I know it’s a re imagining of the comic and movie, but why not make new characters? We have a comic, a movie and series on Eric and Shelly. We know everything about them.
(Plus the soundtrack is gonna be a mess. Sorry, but you can’t top The Cure and Nine Inch Nails’s songs)
The new trailer for The Crow 2024 actually genuinely hurt my feelings, it was so terrible 🤣💀 I was laughing, CACKLING really, and now I need to vent.
They're doing that shit they always do with modern remakes/retellings, where they modernize the technology and look of the film. Because yeah the violence looks good and all. But where's the soul, where's the heart? The makeup looks half assed, even aesthetically. What's the tone here, 'average punk-ish action movie'?
Like they dumbed down and stomped out the actual heart and overall aesthetic of the story. The villains have been reduced to regular mob-like gangsters?? Eric and Shelly aren't even just regular average people, here they met wherever tf they did, prison in this case I guess? They're both former inmates here I guess, which I suppose might have felt significant if that tied into why the gang killed them later. Instead of Shelly just randomly walking by and seeing something she shouldn't have 💀
I feel like that takes away from Shelly as a character at this point. She doesn't do much in the original but at least she was consciously fighting against forced evictions in a scummy neighborhood. It was dangerous, but she risked it which implied that she was a person who cared and wanted to do something good. That's what that one tiny plot point told us. Now in this new remake it's just "wrong place at the wrong time".
Idk, it really all comes down to this one moment for me. In the OG 1994 movie they never had to verbally TELL us that Eric was getting revenge because of his love for Shelly. We gathered that easily on our own, they shared so much of their relationship with meaningful short little memories and flashbacks. Through the characters around them who loved and cared for/about them. We got to learn everything we needed to know about these two, we cared about them and were rooting for Eric based on so little. The core fact that two regular good people were wronged so horribly that they deserved to set things right.
And yet in this 3min trailer, they felt the need to shove that down our throats like we didn't just see this version of Eric and Shelly being all cutesy and lovey dovey before being wrongfully murdered. A character literally said the words "he's doing it for love" LIKE COME THE FUCK ON 💀
It's whatever, I just hate it 😂😂
the trailer just dropped for the crow remake and oh my god it's worse than I thought it would be wtf is going on💀 brandon lee didn't die for this
