Killer Croc
Waylon Jones was born with a rare case of atavism, a genetic mutation that resulted in his developing reptilian features. This included crocodile-like skin, greatly enhanced strength and durability and sharpened teeth. During his childhood, Waylon performed in a traveling carnival sideshow. He later joined a profession wrestling federation under the stage name of ‘Killer Croc Morgan,’ Killer Croc quickly worked his way up the ranks to become champion.
Croc was so brutal in the ring that he was ultimately kicked out of the federation. He made his way to Gotham City where he became a strong-armed criminal and ran afoul of Harvey Bullock, who arrested him. Croc later escaped from prison and sought revenge by attempting to frame and then murder Detective Bullock. Batman intervened, cleared Bullock’s name and apprehended Croc.
Croc was initially detained in Arkham Asylum but was later deemed sane and transferred to Stonegate Penitentiary. He escaped during the transfer and hid out with a group of former circus and carnival ‘freaks’ who accepted Croc as one of their own. Eventually, Batman located Croc and even though the performers tried to protect Croc, his villainous nature showed and they turned against him. With Batman's assistance, Croc was captured and taken back to Gotham City.
Following another stint at Arkham Asylum, Croc once more escaped and attempted to establish his own criminal organization in Gotham. No long thereafter, Croc was ambushed and savagely beaten by the mercenary known as Bane. Bane had taken Croc down as a means of announcing his presence in Gotham and effectively challenging Batman. Croc was taken to the infirmary at Stonegate where he recuperated from his injuries.
Actor Aron Kincaid provided the voice for Killer Croc, with the villain originally appearing in the twenty-first episode of the first season of Batman: The Animated Series, ‘Vendetta.’
