And then there are the other days…when he sees all of the faces of the dead. When he feels those massive weight of failure. When he’s a sobbing mess and having full on anxiety attacks.

He keeps expecting you to get sick of it, sick of him, and just up and leave. But you never have. You’re patient with him, you hold him when he feels like the world is crumbling around him. You gently run your fingers through your hair and sing to him, and it keeps him grounded.

This is why I love the idea of you guys being best friends first too. You actually think his sass is funny as hell, and maybe you bond over picking fun at Eren. You just…get each other, you know? It’s never a dull moment with Jean around, and you live for that. The constant teasing, the dumb jokes. Making faces and rolling your eyes at each other.

He acts like Mr. Big Bad, but you know differently. You’ve seen that soft side he hides underneath. He’ll grumble and tell you to be more careful, but he’ll always make sure you’re safe. You’ll see the fear and concern in his eyes after a Titan attack as he’s rushing around looking for you.

You see how hard it hits him to lose Marco. He tries to keep up that tough exterior, he really does. But that’s the first time he’ll be vulnerable and cry in front of you. Hell, maybe you will too. You’re probably just as shaken up. You comfort each other.

And maybe that’s when he starts looking at you a little differently. Ahhhh I’ll stop here because I know I’ll keep rambling; hopefully that wasn’t all super OOC! But OMG that moment too when Jean decides… “Yep. She’s it. I’m marrying her.”
