One cry away from drowning
Rare pity, mercy and compassion of the giants called humanity
I don’t know who needs to hear this, but please let your self cry and feel and hurt. let the pain leave your body. the longer it stays there, the more it will hurt you.
[ID: A simple MS Paint drawing of a cat sitting. It is crying very hard, mouth wide open. It is saying “I’ve had enough! I’m really tired!” in all caps. The image is watermarked “catcrumb”. End ID.]
reading this article about why humans are (most likely) the only species to cry emotionally rather than just to lubricate their eyes and the two things that struck me about it are 1. how nebulous our knowledge of this actually is; we know how emotional tears are chemically different from other (say, onion-cutting) tears, but we don't know why that is with any amount of certainty, and 2. one hypothesis given for why there's more protein in emotional tears:
Evidence is mounting in support of some new, more plausible theories. One is that tears trigger social bonding and human connection. While most other animals are born fully formed, humans come into the world vulnerable and physically unequipped to deal with anything on their own. Even though we get physically and emotionally more capable as we mature, grownups never quite age out of the occasional bout of helplessness. “Crying signals to yourself and other people that there’s some important problem that is at least temporarily beyond your ability to cope,” says Jonathan Rottenberg, an emotion researcher and professor of psychology at the University of South Florida. “It very much is an outgrowth of where crying comes from originally.”
Scientists have also found some evidence that emotional tears are chemically different from the ones people shed while chopping onions—which may help explain why crying sends such a strong emotional signal to others. In addition to the enzymes, lipids, metabolites and electrolytes that make up any tears, emotional tears contain more protein. One hypothesis is that this higher protein content makes emotional tears more viscous, so they stick to the skin more strongly and run down the face more slowly, making them more likely to be seen by others.
repeat after me:
crying is a HEALTHY release of emotion AND a great way to complete the stress cycle
it also grants you a tiger
putting it on a wheel like this makes it look like having a cry and calming down incites painful triggers to happen to one, however, which is filling me with irrational anxiety
@whetstonefires I was primed by the other responses but I read this as "incites painful TIGERS" and
repeat after me:

"how do you get stuff done?" bitch with tears in my eyes 😭
bumper sticker that says "go around me i'm crying"
Y'know, some people do have a strong crying response to stress, and they might cry (even against their own will) when faced with an upsetting situation and that doesnt mean they are “gaslighting” or “manipulating” you.
There are people who use crying as a manipulation tactic? Absolutely. But that doesn’t mean that every person that cries during a heated argument is trying to get under your skin. They have their own emotions and issues, and frankly, not everything other people do is a personal attack on you.
Jfc I am not surprised OP got shitty responses, but like, if your reaction to this post is to immediately look for ways in which you can misinterpret and misapply it in order to be self-righteous on the internet, then I have some terrible news for you about who is actually engaging in incredibly manipulative and dishonest behaviour here. Hint: it’s not OP and it’s not people who cry easily.
Third crying jag since they announced my HIIT gym is closing.
Like.
Loud gasping sobs.
Heartbroken.
i love reading sad books bc when your own grief is stopped up inside you like a clogged drain you can grieve for a character on a page and understand that you're also grieving for yourself a little bit
I will not say, do not weep, for not all tears are evil.
