When we feel powerless, we make powerless choices. When we feel empowered, we are in a position to make empowered choices. Every choice we make begins with us first referring to our inner sense of power and whether we perceive ourselves as safe, as victimized, as victorious, as respected, as loved, as alone, as abused, as entitled….as something. True power lies in taking control of your perceptions and your capacity to control the illusions commanding your spirit.

Healing is not a cure. It is a shift in perception. When you heal from past pain or trauma, you may release it & shift into a new way of experiencing its effect on you. When you have a chronic illness, you may shift into acceptance rather than fighting what you can't control. When you have stress or physical pain, you may shift into better self care & less victimization. With all shifts, you may start to see the gifts or lessons in your experiences, rather than the burdens. This is true healing & it's available to all.

Fat is not a feeling. Fat is a metaphor. Fat is excess. Fat is unwanted. Fat is unacceptable. Fat is shame. Fat is to be gotten rid of. Fat is the whole family of feelings I do not want to feel. So when I say I’m feeling fat, it’s of no use to respond in regards to my body. You may think I’m talking about my body; I may think I’m talking about my body. But what I’m feeling has nothing to do with my size or shape or weight, and everything to do with this mass of feelings. Which are not fat. Nor excess, or shameful, or to be gotten rid of. Those feelings need to be accepted. Those feelings make you whole. Those feelings make you enough - not too little or too much - just the way you are.

Something amazing happens when you allow yourself to do something that you previously thought you could not do. Suddenly you realise that all of those stories you have been telling yourself for so long, are in fact lies. A new door opens that leads on to a fresh, unknown path. Your perception of yourself shifts. The level you are playing at suddenly shifts up a notch and a whole new reality now lays at your feet. When you continue to play small, you allow your stories to rule you. When you step up and shine your light, you prove your stories wrong. You blast them out of the water. You show them once and for all, that you a much bigger and brighter than they have been trying to convince you .

Many of the most iconic stories and songs of all time have been inspired by gut-wrenching pain and heartbreak - and the silver lining of these challenges is that they may have been the catalyst to create great art. An emerging field of psychology called post-traumatic growth is suggesting that many people are able to use their hardships and early-life trauma for substantial creative growth. Specifically, researchers have found that trauma can help people to grow in the areas of interpersonal relationships, spirituality, appreciation of life, personal strength, and - most importantly for creativity - seeing new possibilities in life. A lot of people are able to use that as the fuel they need to come up with a different perspective on reality. What's happened is that their view of the world as a safe place, or as a certain type of place, has been shattered at some point in their life, causing them to go on the periphery and see things in a new, fresh light, and that's very conducive to creativity.

All it takes is a small, simple shift in perception and you will start a tidal wave of change in your life. You will begin to re-wire your mind, transform your body and re-connect with your soul. You can make the shift from seeing what is wrong about something, to seeing what is right. You can shift from focusing on what you don't have, to what you do. You can shift from the energy of fear, into a space of love. The minute you change your focus and energy, the whole world around you also shifts to reflect that.

The mirror I use to get ready each day has been dirty for a while. Normal bathroom spots had clouded the view, and yet, day after day, I tolerated it. Until today. Today it finally occurred to me that a simple paper towel with water would clean it up in no time. And then it was like a new mirror. I couldn't believe I had waited so long for such clarity. We often do this in other areas of our lives, don't we? We tolerate a situation of uncertainty for way too long & then marvel at the simple clarity it brings. We especially do this with our daily "mirrors", those things that bring clarity about us as human beings, as individuals. We like them to be cloudy for as long as possible to avoid seeing the truth. Sometimes we even avoid the literal mirrors, because we so dislike what we see there.

Your physical body is your tool for experiencing the world. It allows you to see, hear, feel, taste, smell, touch, and know your inner and outer environments. It’s also the temple for your soul. Your soul is constantly communicating with you through your body, but you’re often too busy to really hear these important messages. The way you relate to your body is often based on what you compare your body to. For example, compared to a mouse, you’re really big, but compared to an elephant, you’re quite small. The conclusions you form actually depend upon what you judge yourself against. You know that you’re a female because you see males, and you know that you’re not one of those. You know that you’re short because you see tall people . . . and you know that you’re not one of those. You know that you’re old because you see younger people (and you know that you’re no longer one of those). Perhaps you compare yourself to yourself. Do you say, “I used to be 20 pounds lighter”? Do you compare yourself to your teenage self, saying, “I used to be able to stay up late and not be tired the next morning”? Maybe you compare your present body with the one you had when you got married: “I used to fit in a size-10 dress.” Most people define themselves by the body they occupy, and then they define their body by contrasting it to their surroundings. However, try this instead: Imagine that you’re floating in space. All memory of your past is gone. All recollections of the comparisons you’ve made in your life are gone. You are just a naked body drifting in the vastness of space. When there’s nothing to compare your body to, how do you define it? It’s not skinny or fat, tall or short, or young or old. All of your perceptions are a delusion - they have nothing to do with who you are. The only thing that you have is your senses . . . and the present moment. In other words, what are you seeing, sensing, smelling, feeling, and touching right now. This is the truth about your body.

I had to surrender to a new perception and chose to seek my power in an internal condition rather than an external circumstance. Once I became willing to stop looking out there and look inward instead, my entire life changed. I began to earn my serenity and learned to find my source of peace and purpose from an inward condition. My neediness melted away, my insecurity weakened and my self-doubt transformed into self-assurance.
