Kana after Aqua committed seppuku after promising he wouldn't joke about dying
Have you checked out the ONK leaks? At this point I am a little disappointed by the writting idk how many chapters there is left the only thing I am waiting is for aquakana to be canon do you think we still have good chances? :')
(Ask was sent before Ch 162 was officially released)
Anon, I know you meant well but please don't hint at leaks before the chapters are officially released since I avoid leaks so reading this left me anxious until the official release 😭🙏
Not a fan of Aqua thinking his life's purpose is to protect Ruby. Out of the last couple chapters, the one I liked most was Ch 161 since it focused on ALL of Aqua's relationships rather than just Ruby. I feel the need to reiterate this because whenever I theorized the idea of Kana saving Aqua, I mostly meant that Kana's character would play an important role in the climax when comparing it to other characters, but that obviously, all of Aqua's relationships would be important in him moving forward.
Knowing that there's only 4 chapters left does leave me nervous over Aqua's fate too. I do wanna say that logically, the story itself feels set-up to have Aqua live and heal, and be able to pursue all of his desires that he expressed in Ch 161, which includes having a relationship with Kana, but there's been a lot of curveballs lately that make it hard to predict the story LOL.
Here's my poorly thought-up theory on how the next couple chapters will go - assuming Aqua will live:
Ch 163 - Aqua realizes that dying is not actually cool TM so he doesn't die (somehow)
Ch 164 - Tying up the whole revenge plot stuff + immediate aftermath
Ch 165 - Small timeskip after Aqua does a bit of healing - AquaKana finally gets together?? + Much needed Kana focus here
Ch 166 - Timeskip to Ruby performing at the Dome + Aqua getting into med school + Kana achieving success as the lead for the in-universe movie "Oshi no Ko" + Panels of all the other side characters succeeding in their careers
Gosh sorry to send sudden asks but I find interesting the fact you're waiting to buy the art book just today I got my Mem-cho and Kana figures! I am intrigued about the 4 chapters only left... I wonder if AquKana can be canon I really hope so, twitter is being kind of a doom feelings well... Fingers crossed I already got the figures I would love to buy the artbook too but depends on the ending, just like you said I really related to this
Oooh which figures did you get?
4 chapters being left does make me feel a bit anxious about Aqua's fate, especially after that cliffhanger. But the final arc is called "Towards the Stars and Dreams". His date with Kana in Ch 151 has a major focus about dreams, and dreams are fixated once again in Ch 161. Both conversations bring up Aqua's dream of being a surgeon, and the mutual desire for both Aqua and Kana to pursue a relationship with one another.
While I had my issues with the last quarter, OnK Twitter has been too doomposting for me. The last straw was people insisting that Ruby was just like Airi...
I've only spent money on 2 AquaKana keychains when it comes to OnK merch, so at least it won't be a huge waste of money if somehow the last 4 chapters somehow make me regret those purchases LOL. But I always wanted to buy some real anime merch, and buying the artbook seemed perfect for it.
Hii, do you think aquakana has a hundred per cent of chances on canon and do you think we have odds of a KISS? I really think it would be important because none of Aqua kisses were for love... I am not as used to Aka work so... so sorry to bother you by the way love to see stein;gates fans
First of all, it's always nice to see more S;G Fans <3
Regarding an Aquakana kiss, I definitely can't say 100% since I feel like we've gotten a lot of curve balls lately with OnK but I want to say there's a high chance of it if Aqua does get together with Kana. The only possible endgame endings for Aqua right now are either "Kana or no one". I also noticed that Aqua's kiss scenes so far were not done out of love, so think it would be sweet if the manga finally has a kiss scene that is done purely out of romantic intent.
I've read all of Aka's other works. Love Agency got axed before the romance had any significant build-up for a kiss, while Instant Bullet's romance had a tragic ending before the ship kissed. In Kaguya-sama, Kaguya mentions that the first kiss didn't feel like a true first kiss because Kaguya and Shirogane were still hiding parts of themselves to one another, so their kiss after baring their normal selves was framed as their actual first kiss. It would be cool if something similar was done in OnK.
Can't wait for Ch 163 to show Kana slapping Aqua's corpse after Ichigo fishes it out of the ocean, demanding why he skipped her graduation concert 💞
AquaKana anons in my inbox - I promise to respond before the next chapter drops. I'll just feel bad if I talk about shipping immediately after seeing that Aqua's drowning LOL
Wow.. this moment broke me
The moment in which we were able to see into Aqua's visual thoughts shows what post-traumatic stress disorder could cause him to stay away from a woman he loves so that she can be spared from his misfortune.... Aka your written love story for Aqua and Kana is so painful and yet so damn beautiful
We keep having these "OnK manga finally confirmed that Aqua romantically loves Kana" moments, except a lot of people on copium dissect the meaning and tone using every possible translation which makes them settle on the confirmations being "ambiguous", as they heatedly debate with other fans on the interpretations of the scenes. So each confirmation is initially met with "K THIS TIME, its properly confirmed!" until fans on copium explain why its not confirmed
I love how the anime changed this bit to a fancier cafe ❤️

The "war flashbacks" sound effect during this part 😂😭
I noticed there were some similarities between the relationship-based monologues in Oshi no Ko (Aqua/Akane & Aqua/Kana) and Fruits Basket (Yuki/Tohru and Kyo/Tohru). One thing I like about them is how they are able to portray both relationships in the mangas as distinct while making it clear which pairing is the endgame one based on what is focused on.
Yuki's feelings about Tohru: "I was hopeless...but she appeared before the helpless me once again. To be with me, close to me. She even listened to what someone like me had to say. She wasn't disgusted and she didn't scold. Time after time. She accepted me time and again. She's beloved to me. Like how the sky feels so close, yet so far. Like a mother."
Aqua's feelings about Akane:
One thing I noted is that both Yuki's and Aqua's monologues focus on what the girls did for them. There was unconditional acceptance and both note that the girls got close to "someone like them". The relationships are not equal as both have that mother/son angle, where the girl is not receiving as much in return.
Kyo's feelings about Tohru: "Finding joy in the smallest things. Being happy and smiling so cheerfully. Why? She should think of herself more. Why? Doesn't she think she's getting the short end of the stick? She thinks that she's stupid, or that there's nothing good about her. I love you. I love you so much...just as you are."
Aqua's feelings about Kana:
Like with Fruits Basket, when we see Aqua's POV on Kana, it focuses on what he specifically likes about Kana, mentioning her personality and how she acts in situations. Both guys also want the girls to not get the short end of the stick, and wish that the girls would think about themselves more - as both girls adopted a selfless attitude due to their childhood trauma. These points also make it clear to me on why these 2 ships are the romantic endgames of their respective series.
Some cute ass Aqua and Kana moments that made me go "how to not ship...?" Only Kana draws out such cute ass reactions from Aqua. Not even Ruby (and Sarina) does:
-
He's so normal dude when he's with her lol.
And only Kana can make him go from this:
To this lmao:
Yes, they're wholesome and cute but just because its that doesn't mean its superficial... Especially if it affects them to such a deep level <_<
Aka Aksaka's main ship in "Love Agency" has this description which is basically AquaKana.
Aqua = A hero who is not so honest. Aqua is emphasized throughout OnK to be a liar.
Kana - A heroine who is way too honest. Kana, out of the main characters, is the most earnest.
