hello gang! idk that anyone other than me particularly wants these lol but when my new laptop arrived I made some Ai wallpapers to rotate my desktop background! They're all official art - some stuff is from Glare x Sparkle and some I just nabbed from promo art.

They're all made for a 1920 x 1080 monitor, but you should be able to scale them down for any 16:9 and have them look fine, I'm pretty sure???

Hopefully Tumblr doesn't mulch them lol

Ai Hoshino stans are lucky. Like sure Ai is dead for pretty much all the story but:

  • Ai is the only girl who is both super popular (appearing in lots of merch and official artwork) and doesn't have a weirdly obnoxious vocal minority in her fandom which can't be said about the other girls minus Memcho. Mostly Ruby's but for some reason, people act like Kana's is the most obnoxious
  • The character who benefited the most from the Movie arc, which didn't do favors for certain other characters
  • Prettiest Girl
  • Voiced by Rie Takahashi (OnK does have one of my favourite VA casts in general, but Ai's is like the perfect match to the character)
  • Her image song Idol has become so iconic and also describes her so perfectly as a character. The MV is also wonderfully animated.
  • Her character is tied to familial love in the series, which is much-welcomed from the over-the-top ship wars
  • The star of THE SCENE that shook the anime community (and all it took was dying)

theres been a running theme of Ai and hands in particular. Hands reaching out to her, hands enclosing her like a caught rabbit, hands trying desperately to grab onto and hold the final remnants of her (and of Ai too, never managing to reach out and fully grasp onto the other person, no matter how hard she tried)

hands forever reaching out to her, but they never could because there was always some sort of barrier between them, whether it was jealousy, idolisation or just plain refusal to understand her. when its other people talking about her, Ai is drawn in the spotlight, far away from her peers and alone with her face never turned to the viewer

and the only time the hands connect, is when her words are finally heard and she is understood. but Ai is dead and its much too late for it to mean anything but despair and grief. the hands are still separated by time.

Oshi no Ko Chapter 141 : Hikaru And Ai

I know the latest chapter of oshi no ko was very controversial and everyone is making their own speculation about what might happen but can we take a moment, just a tiny moment to appreciate this panel :

Hikaru has been lying his whole life, always fooling people and never showing his true colors. However, for the first time in his life, someone was able to see through his lies, someone who could tell that Hikaru wasn't fine as he always says.

And he opened up to her, we saw in the last chapter that both of them were enjoying each other company and having fun together but Hikaru seems to trust her a lot to the point of telling her about the abuse

And Ai, Ai went to confront Airi the moment she heard all of his story, which was huge change in her character, she usually seems detached from the world and not getting involved and always saying -not what she want to say but - what people want to hear, but here, she stood up for Hikaru's sake and made Airi know what she truly is (nothing but an abuser).

Oshi no Ko- Mother and Children

Fun fact: All these flashbacks (except for the bath, which was from a mini 2 page side chapter) are anime-original! It goes to show how much love the studio has for the series in how they try to elevate some manga scenes.

Also, the way you can almost interpret this “life flashing before your eyes” segment, as Ai’s life only truly starting after her kids were born. 🥺

Aqua/Kana and Hikaru/Ai parallels - OnK Spoilers

I really feel like Oshi no Ko is trying to parallel both dynamics against one another.

1. Both of them have the same age gap of 1 year with the girl being a year older.

This might not seem like much, but part of me didn’t get why OnK chose Hikaru to be 15 specifically when he was with Ai. Majority of anime ships either have the girl and guy be the same age or the guy be older. Additionally, it would be “easier” to explain Hikaru aiding a murder if he was a little older. Considering how a bunch of people thought it was possible that Ai was groomed by an older man, it came as a shock when it turned out that Hikaru was the one that was groomed at age 11.

2.  Idol who fits the “ideal girl” criteria of Aqua’s who is B-Komachi’s center, and has feelings for the mentally unstable actor

Many people have pointed out the similarities of Kana/Ai and people have also joked that Aqua is becoming like his father (a bit of stretch since the worst thing he did was put a tracker on his ex-gf), but combined with the fact that 2 sets of parallels are also involved in ships makes it feel like these relationships are meant to parallel one another.

3. Hikaru eventually led to Ai’s demise, but maybe for OnK, Kana will pull Aqua out of his demise.

Hikaru is the reason that Ai died, and Kana has had numerous hints to being the light of the series. I don’t think Aqua is going to lead to Kana’s ruin, but instead this ship might end up subverting what happened to his parents, with Kana pulling Aqua out of his downward spiral.

Additional point to #3, when Ai had the kids, she still said she still had never felt true love before. And during the phone call she had to tell him her new address, she said, “No, I’m not trying to get back together or anything.”

I feel like, Kamiki’s serial killer obsession wasn’t just with women who were bright, rising stars before their peak.

He’s obsessed with bringing them “to justice” because Himekawa Airi, Hoshino Ai, and Katayose Yura were all liars. Both to their fans, and in real life.

I do think that it’s a possibility that Kamiki felt, and believed, that Ai loved him. And later on he felt that he had been jilted, and taken advantage of once again, just like Airi did to him. This will have been the second time that he’s siring children and not going to be able to tell the truth that he is the father.

And telling the truth led to both Airi and Ai’s deaths.

But in stark contrast, everything about Arima Kana is honest.

Her acting and her crying trick were based on her honest feelings about thinking of seeing her parents die.

When she feels sad, you clearly see it in her dance performance.

When she sees Aqua, she is excited and never held back from telling him she was glad to have seen him again.

Whenever she gets teased about crushing on him, she gets wildly defensive but so incredibly obvious about just how much she likes him.

Kindaichi said that the best actors have deceptive eyes, the power to make lies look like truths.

But Arima Kana has no such eyes.

Arima Kana has nothing but honesty.
