Headcanon: Cussing

Dedicated to the very kind Anon who requested it!

I hope you (and all of you, nice folks!) like it. It was wonderful way to get reacquainted with my own Tumblr.

As always, reblogs, comments, likes, are all treasured and appreciated!

--->--->--->--->--->--->--->--->--->--->--->--->--->--->--->--->--->--->--->--->

Cassandra: when she was a child, she used to do it a lot. A. Lot. Mostly for the chance to see her relatives shocked and appalled. She heard the guards in her uncle’s estate cussing here and there, when they were sure nobody was nearby. Therefore, if they were doing that, to be a warrior partly involved cussing, right? Growing up, she tones it down a great deal, realizing that cussing can actually weaken your voice during an argument or make you look undignified. This is something the Right Hand of the Divine simply can’t allow. She is not shocked to hear it, mind you, but she keeps the few ones she needs to bark out mostly for when she is not doing anything official near someone important.

Blackwall: he has lived among soldiers. Cussing is part of a normal day as it is training in the sparring ring. Curiously, though, he doesn't like cussing unless it just escapes his mouth out of exasperation. He blames having been in contact with Orlesians too much, but he prefers a well thrown insult to an actual curse. When he acted as a Grey Warden, he tried even harder to refrain himself, wanted to appear a dignified and rightful guidance. When he lets one slip, though, it is a big one!

Dorian: he has a potty mouth, simply put. Oh, sure he tries to correct it a lot, and generally he succeeds in selecting a more refined language. Surely, he doesn’t cuss near Madame de Fer - no way in the Void he is letting anyone Orlesian think they are more refined than he is. However, he cusses in the bedroom. In the heat of passion or during a role-playing he lets go of everything that blocks him, and just... curses. When he is angry, the best curses to spit out at his enemies are in Tevene, and he switched to it almost unconsciously.

Dragon Age Inquisition Headcanons:

Nightwears - Companions & Advisors

(some parts can be considered nsfw-ish, I guess?)

Cassandra: she sleeps with an old pair of cotton trousers and a linen shirt one or two sizes bigger than hers. Her nightwears have to be practical, allowing her to bolt out from her bedroll in case of need or sudden attack. However, one of her best - kept secrets is a silken nightgown, very short and with a very low neckline that she saw once in Orlais. The shop was full of delicate garments and she was tempted to buy one, but she thought they were unsuitable and too frivolous for a warrior. The next day, she found the silken nightgown in her closet with a witty note from Leliana.

Romanced: she uses that garment to seduce the Inquisitor once their intimate relationship started. She lets him look at her, barking that she’s getting cold and she’s surely ridiculous, but she wants his opinion. His enthusiastic reaction makes her wear that nightgown more often.

The Iron Bull: he sleeps naked both in a tent and in Skyhold, point. He has no concern to have to jump out of the bed. He can face enemies fully undressed without flinching. To fight, he just needs his weapon, that always lays next to his bedroll. He makes sure to have an extra couple of blankets if he’s in a very cold place, and even if he shares a tent he’s not embarrassed to sleep without clothes, as long as the other person is fine with that.

Romanced: the Inquisitor always jokes about giving him a sleepwear, sooner or later, but Bull chuckles, knowing that they appreciate his lack of modesty. When the Inquisitor jokingly asks what type of sleepwear could tempt him, Bull winks and describes something made with more leather and chains than actual cloth.

Blackwall: he sleeps shirtless, but with an old pair of soft trousers on, plus a couple of socks he uses just for bed. He would hardly admit that, but he’s very fond of those socks he bought a long time ago. Despite being washed regularly, they have been mend many times by him. Every once in a while, he swears to buy a new pair, but he can’t find anything as soft as they are - or with the same shade of mustard yellow. He doesn’t like sleeping naked since someone could walk in.

Romanced: the Inquisitor finds actually amusing and a bit cute Blackwall’s affection towards an old pair of socks. She reassures him it’s a good thing he sleeps in that way since those fluffy things are perfect to warm up her cold feet.

Solas: he sleeps wearing a soft long-sleeved shirt and a short pair of trousers. He doesn’t seem to be bothered by cold or hot weather, never changing his outfit. Sometimes, if the inspiration hits him in the middle of the night, he paints in his nightwear, carefully trying to avoid any stain of paint and failing every time, waking up with blue and red and yellow spots on his shirt.

Romanced: he likes talking with the Inquisitor when they lay under the sheets. He scoffs when she chuckles about how soft the shirt is, but he also wonders if gifting her with one of his tunics would be too sappy.

Vivienne: she has quite a collection of nightgowns and nighties. Some of them she bought in Val Royeaux, others she designed personally for her seamstress to sew, and others are precious gifts from Bastienne. Every single one of her nightclothes is a masterpiece of silk and lace, an elegant triumph of silver or dark blue or white shades and ample sleeves or long hems encrusted with gems. She knows fighting in her night clothes won’t be a nuisance. She already did it once or twice.

Dorian: he sleeps shirtless, wearing just a comfortable pair of ample trousers, made of an obscenely expensive silk from Tevinter. He owns a few pairs of them, in different shades of gold and silver. They’re very soft, very expensive and very him. His true obsession, however, is the slippers, the ones that Rivaine, Tevene and Antivan use. Exquisite creations made of the finest leather, comfortable to walk around in the chambers, but also to lay down on the sofa reading a book. He has a few pairs, with different gems and embroidery for every season.

Romanced: he commissions a pair for the Inquisitor too, as soon as his Amatus recovers himself from the shock of their price. However, since they start to sleep together, Dorian discovers the joy to sleep naked, skin against skin with his beloved.

Varric: he doesn’t like sleeping naked. Bartrand had the habit to interrupt his sleep with this or that idea or just with drunk jokes, and Varric hated to get caught naked. Varric bought some pairs of comfortable dark cotton trousers in Kirkwall and, since then, he always buys them from the same merchant. He likes sleeping with just his trousers on, not his underwear, whatever weather it’s outside. Once, Bianca sent him a pair of luxurious pajama pants, a delicate thing he never uses. However, he keeps it in the closet, looking at them when he wants to brood a little.

Sera: she wears a huge shirt with more holes than cloth. It’s a thing that maybe once was red or dark pink, impossible to say. She grins that the colors don’t matter as long as it’s cozy and warm. She hates being cold and her improvised nightgown is the best thing she has found during her journeys. She refuses to wear anything else. If the weather is warm enough, she sleeps just in her panties or she simply takes off her breeches.

Romanced: she is delighted to sleep naked as close as she can to the Inquisitor, even if her lover’s breath is ticklish against her skin. It doesn’t matter, she keeps Sera warm enough. Sera offers to find a cozy shirt for the Quizzy too if she wants. One that matches hers.

Cole: he doesn’t sleep - not how normal humans do that - so he doesn’t own proper clothes for the night time. He tries to take his shoes off, but he’s adamant that the hat stays on his head. Ha takes care to clean with magic his clothes before laying down in his bedroll.

Romanced (with Maryden): he takes off his hat because she likes hugging him and he likes being hugged by her. The hat rests on his pillow anyway.

Advisors:

Josephine: she wears the most delicate, gorgeous cotton pajama. Despite the common belief, she doesn’t like sleeping covered in silk. Her pajama has puffy sleeves, dozens of ribbons everywhere and a short pair of embroidered trousers. She has different models, all quite similar to each other, in vibrant colors that remind her of her homeland. As Dorian, she too has bedroom slippers, two tiny things bordered with pink fur.

Romanced: she is delighted to pirouette for the Inquisitor, once they insist on seeing how much the vaporous shirt can twirl around her body. She likes having the Inquisitor naked in her arms, but she prefers wearing at least her shirt before falling asleep.

Cullen: Templars weren’t encouraged to sleep naked - they needed to be ready in case of emergency as quickly as they could - but for him, it’s a relief being allowed to sleep totally naked now. He has never suffered the cold weather and the fresh air is a relief against his skin, especially when he’s not feeling well. Light fevers are one of the many aspects of lyrium withdrawals. He also likes feeling the cotton of the sheet against his skin and being able to adjust the temperature around him simply covering himself with it or kicking it away.

Romanced: he discovers quite soon that his beloved Inquisitor is not bothered by his nudity at all. Cullen loves sleeping holding her in his arms, her warm body the best antidote against night terrors. He loves even more when he’s the little spoon, being cradled in her arms, skin against skin, safe and loved.

Leliana: she sleeps with a short nightgown on. Once she used to love flowing nightgowns, and she still owns a huge collection in her wardrobe. Right now, however, she favors something that allows her to jump out of the bed swiftly, but which hides the dagger wrapped around one of her thighs. It’s a beautiful nightgown, however, a dark purple masterpiece of lace with thin shoulders straps. She wonders if she should buy another one, in black this time. Josephine gives her one to celebrate the victory of the Inquisition.

I love Cullen, the butt toucher. I wonder if he realizes it and blush, or simply bends over his beloved and whispers dirty stuff.

( And I do think they're pretty shocked he mustered enough courage to touch his lover's butt in public 😆😆😆!!!)

Headcanon: Dragon Age Inquisition Romanced Characters during St. Valentine’s day

Cullen: he organizes a wonderful dinner in the gazebo in the garden, after asking Josephine to keep the place just for him and his Inquisitor. The Inquisitor thinks that’s the present, but he smiles, blushing and rubbing his neck, holding out a packet. It’s wrapped simply, with a little bunch of her favorite flowers carefully tied there. “I hope you like it, I wasn’t sure… I can buy you something different if you don’t like it!”. Inside an exquisite leather bag, there is compass “For when you’re far away, so you’ll always find your way back to me.” he explains, smiling while she kisses him.

Cassandra: she blushes furiously, handing out to the Inquisitor a little packet, clumsily wrapped in an adorably cheesy pink paper printed with hearts. “It’s just a little thing.” she mumbles, shifting on her feet “If you don’t like it, tell me. I wasn’t sure what you might prefer.”. It’s a book. A book of love poems. Her own copy. The inscription tells simply “To my beloved.”, but the Inquisitor knows she spent hours thinking about it, pouring all her affection in the words.

Dorian: he gives the Inquisitor his present during the breakfast, as if it isn’t such a matter. But he’s holding his breath, and when his amatus opens his mouth, surprised and delighted, Dorian is radiant. In an elegant jewelry box, there is a solid gold bracelet, composed of two snakes wrapped together “I enchanted it.” Dorian smiles, smug “It’ll keep you warm when you are in cold places and vice versa. And look inside!” he urged. Where he points there is a single word “Together”.

Blackwall: of course he has carved something. It’s a little chest, easily transportable during her travels. He has surely worked for weeks, the Inquisitor realizes, looking at the complicated arabesques carved all over it. “I thought you might like something useful.” he explains, with an embarassed laugh. Inside, the wooden trunk has different compartments, and a secret one that he shows excited. Carefully carved in the precious wood, it’s written “My heart lies in your hands.”.

The Iron Bull: he gives to the Inquisitor two gifts. The first one is for both of them and the Inqusitor smirks seeing the complicated underwear, all laces and buckles. “Well, this is just for you instead, kadan.”. It’s a little dragon, made by a shining ruby. As little as the sculture is, it’s extraordinary detailed, but the Inquisitor can’t recognise the race. Bull smiles “It’s not one of the ones we fought. This is you. Well, you as I think you’d be in that form.”.

Solas: the packet is perfectly wrapped, with a sober cream paper. He smirks, when the Inquisitior opens it, finding an agenda. It’s handcrafted, with the Inquisitor’s favourite flowers dried and pressed on the cover. Inside, he has left some pages for her to full as she prefers, but the others are drawn. Flowers, scene from ancient places, and suddenly her portrait. She’s beautiful, radiant, and he caresses slowly her face “It’s how I see you, venhan.”.

Sera: she is super nervous, almost throwing her present to the Inquisitor. It’s a series of little notes, carefully tied with strings in the Inquisitor’s favorite color, placed inside a basket full of fresh flowers. “Look, I don’t say smoochy things. So I wrote them.” she mutters, blushing. Every note has a compliment or a witty consideration about the Inquisitor. Sera kisses her “I wrote everything I like about you.”.

Josephine: she has a little present, of course, a marvellous embroided new coat for them when they travel, but her true gift is a day to spend together. They have a lovely pic nic full of smiles, kisses and delicious dishes she serves personally. Josephine has made sure to have cooked all the Inquisitor’s favorite foods, as a bottle of the finest Antivan wine is ready to be shared.    “I thought the most precious present is giving you a break from our busy life.” she blushes, kissing their cheek.

Headcanons about the Inquisition Members: cooking during a mission

Cassandra: she can’t properly cook a whole meal, but she can roast meat without charring it, and she’s not bad in cutting the vegetables. She has no patient in dosing the ingredients, but she rarely goes wrong. Divine Justinia tought her how to bake. She’s not the greatest baker, but she’s happy when she does it, because the scent of bread remind her her old friend. She also likes making simple sandwiches, mostly with ham and cheese. She counts it as “cooking”.

Dorian: he has never had to cook before the Inquisition, and he is not very interested in it. But, when they’re outside Skyhold and it’s his turn to feed the companions, he can improvise tasty soups, thanks to a little book he has bought in the Hinterlands. He doesn’t want to poison the team, after all. He likes improvising, however, adding herbs and fresh vegetables, if possible. He toasts the bread too, keeping it warm thanks to his magic. Of course, he makes sure to chose the proper wine for every soup.

The Iron Bull: he can cook well, especially meat, but he has a prefers fish. He knows a lot about different types and how to cook them in the best way. He has a thing for spicy food, but knowing that not all his companions share this, he just let the spices’ container where everybody can serve themselves. When he cooks, he’s so quiet and focused that the others are surprised, seeing him tasting carefully little bites of the dish, humming a wordless song.

Solas: he cooks only if no one else offers to do it. He doesn’t seem enjoying it particularly, but he’s always ready to share advices and tales about how he learnt this or that recipe. He puts the food in the plates mixing colors in a very pleasant way, artistic also in this, and even if he just nods politely, he seems very pleased when someone asks for a second portion. Even if he doesn’t like tea, he knows how to make different types of it, which can help the others to sleep or soothe the pain after a battle.

Varric: he does know tons of recipes. But cooking is not only about reading instructions. He is amused by his own inhability to cook something decent beside sandwiches and broth. He can’t roast properly the meat, it’s too hard outside and almost raw inside, let alone the fish. He cooks very basic meals, chopping vegetables and giving his friends dried meat, a thing he always makes sure is fully stocked in their camps.

Blackwall: he’s the king of the stew. He loves cooking for the others, chatting with them while the meat is smoking and the special sauce is boiling. He has a thing for sauces and knows quite a lot of recipes. He can cook something tasty even if he has just a handful of ingredients, and he cooks enough to have a second round for everybody. His food is always strong and the portions almost too big.

Cole: he asks to learn how to cook, but it’s difficult for his friends because the young spirit always talks too much with the meal, not paying a great attention to his teachers. He likes helping the others, however, bringing them what they need even before they can realize it. Often, he personalizes what they cook, adding something sweet here, something spicy there, as he knows it makes them happy. If they have a rough mission, he appears with a basket of little pastries. Nobody knows where he picks them, but they’re happy he does.

Sera: she bakes cookies, of course, and they’re not so bad when she focuses enough to avoid to swap sugar with salt. When she has to cook, she grumbles and huffs, throwing ingredients in a pot, the flames too high. Sometimes she burns the meal, other times she just makes toasted bread and butter, with a little honey on it. She prefers hunting the dinner than cooking it.

Vivienne: for her, the necessity of cooking is a novelty, and although she’s not particularly happy about this, she applies strongly to be able to do it at her best. She learns how to make some vegetables soups and how to cook properly meat and fish. She’s not the greatest cook, but the food is always good, even if a bit too light. She uses her magic to keep the hot beverages pleasently warm, when they’re in cold places, whipping personally some cream in them.

BONUS

Scout Harding: she doesn’t like cooking, not at all, but she never complains. Her mother taught her how to bake and made a decent meal with simple ingredients, and Harding’s roasted ram is pretty famous. Eating mostly dried food, she makes sure to have fresh fruit and vegetables for her and her team at least twice a week  . She always has a couple of raisins biscuits in her satchel. They taste like home.

Cullen: the only time he goes with them on a mission, they tease him about cooking. He surprises them all, making an excellent omelette, with cheese and fresh herbs, and using the leftovers of a previous meal to cook a savory stew. He blushes, explaining Templars taught him, when he was a recruit, and he still remembers some tricks from his mother.

Knight - Captain Rylen: even if he’s an official, Rylen does his part, but his food is basically half - burnt bread or boiled eggs. He once cooks a special soup from Starkhaven, adding enough garlic to scare a demon with his breath. When the Inquisitor senDs proper cooks, it’s a happy day in the Western Approach.

Satinalia: Day 2

A Family Tradition

Day 1 here.

“So, what do you think?” the Inquisitor asked, admiring the giant pine. Dorian caressed gently a branch with the tip of his fingers “It’s a nice tradition from your Country, this one.”.  Demetra passed him a little decoration and the Mage grinned, seeing it was shaped as a little book "What am I suppose to do with this?” “Choose a place and put it on the tree, pretty mustache!” Sera huffed from the other side, grabbing a halla “Pfft, elfy things everywhere.” “It’s part of the set that my sister  - in - law sent me as a present.” Demetra replied “And you can’t say it isn’t absolutly beautiful!”

“I didn’t now the Dalish celebrate Satinalia too.” Cassandra said, checking her own decoration. The Inquisitor passed to Bull another box full of ornaments “I don’t actually know it they do or not, but Dalhena seems to appreciate it. And I suppose my brother told her about our family traditions.” “I admit” chuckled Josephine, sipping her hot chocolate “that this part is my favorite. And we decorate a tree too, in Antiva, but it’s usually a sort of party, much more formal than our gathering today.”. Demetra looked around. Solas had politely declined her invitation and Varric was busy with something - probably starting a revolution or the new chapter of his book - but the rest of her Inner Circle was there, decorating the giant pine in the Main Hall with her, enjoying hot chocolate, mulled wine and biscuits. Biscuits she and Sera had prepared the day before.  The young elf winked at the Inquisitor, when she caught Demetra’s gaze “ ‘re good, told you fancy pants that this time we could do it.”. Demetra laughed, searching for another cookie. She had tried to teach Sera how to shape them as little pines and stars, but the young girl had just scoffed and modelled hers as bees. Little bees decorated with yellow glaze, which were quite cute to be sincere.

“Oh, look here!” Bull tundered enthusiastic, lifting a little dragon, with tiny dark pink wings “You’re the best, boss.” “I know you would appreciated the set I found in Orlais.” the Inquisitor winked at Vivienne. The mage sighed, making a perfect ribbon on a branch with a red and gold cloth “I’m still thinking you paid it too much.” “But you love the set anyway!.” “Never said I don’t.” Vivienne smirked, checking the work of her colleagues. Cole placed delicately a nug shaped one “Sparkling and warm, they’re not as splendid as the one in the masked Empress’ house, but these are truer. These make people smile smiles that cannot hurt and you like it.”. Vivienne stiffened lightly “I asked you to not read my mind.” “But you didn’t know how to say you’re happy.” “I... my dear, I appreciate the thought, but next time leave mine where they are.”. Bull interrupted them cheerfully “Ehi, I found another dragon! Cole, come on my shoulders and put it near the top!”.   They worked chatting and joking for another half an hour, warm and safe and together, for once not because they had to fight monsters, but because of a pleasant reason. They exchanged anecdotes about their past Satinalia and Dorian made them all laugh telling when he animated accidentally all the Satinalia decorations in his home, forcing all servants and parents to chase them all around. Cole went closer Demetra “You’re happy. It makes you brighter. And the little spot is less dark.” “The... little spot?” “You missed your home and your other family. But you’re happy with this one too and the tree is as you like it. The tree is like at home because of them.”  Before Demetra could either start to cry or hug him or tell him he was included, Leliana entered in the Main Hall, fierece and a little frowned as always “It’s a wonderful view, Inquisitor. Very Satinalia.” “Leliana!” Josephine greeted, stopping her quiet chat with Blackwall, who didn’t seem very happy “Fancy to join us?” The Spymaster shook her head “I just need the Inquisitor to give a look to these reports, if you have a moment, lady Trevelyan.” “If you want that I read at least one today, you must choose one decoration and help us, Leliana.” Demetra beamed, kneeling near the tree and searching for another box. The rest of the group grinned, curious to see how this was going to end. The Spymaster looked at the Inquisitor for a long moment. Then, she smiled - a little, but a true one - and she picked a golden star “One report for every decoration, then?”. Cullen reached the group when the work was almost complete, tired and proud, announcing that the soldiers were better than he had thought about sparring against... Before he could go ahead, Demetra put a cup of mulled wine in one of his hands and a little sun in the other “Drink this, pick a spot for that, and no talking about work for a while.” And then, without that Cullen could understand why she had such a pout on her face, she groaned “Leliana put twelve decorations on the tree! I have to hid the rest of them!”.

What's Demetra's biggest pet peeve?

“What do you mean Sera is angry with me?” Demetra gasped, looking at The Iron Bull. The Qunari, sat with her and the others for the dinner, shrugged “Sorry, boss, it seems you did it again.”

“I… didn’t. I was super calm!” Demetra protested, looking at him “I just ask her to leave my bedroom and speak to me about the new ideas for the bombs after breakfast!”

“You said this? With these very words?”. Demetra scolded at Cassandra “More or less, Cass! I mean, maybe not exactly these words, but the meaning was that. Do you truly think I could offend a friend?”

Josephine said diplomatically, playing with her fork “Well, Inquisitor, you’re a very well-mannered and placid lady…”

“Most of the time.” Dorian completed, grinning at Demetra. The Inquisitor rolled her eyes and Varric chuckled “Time that not include the morning.”.

Demetra blushed and protested “Not all the morning! Just… five minutes after I awake. I mean, everyone needs five minutes to… awake! It’s all what I ask! I’m going to save the world, I can have five, miserable minutes in complete silence, while I’m trying to set up for the day?”

“Sure.” Dorian nodded, pouring some wine in Cullen’s cup “Five minutes. My dear, I love you deeply, but you’re a terrible liar. Remember in the Hissing Waste? Half an hour after you awoken? When the Red Templars attacked us and you beheaded them with your bare hands, calling them “fucking sons of a fucking bunch of red nugs”?”

Leliana drank a sip of her wine “Or that time I awoke you to speak about that urgent matter and you threw me out of your bedroom?”.

Cullen smirked “Or when you made that scout cried because he wanted to speak to you during breakfast?”. Demetra huffed “Fine! Ok! I hate when people want to speak to me in the very beginning of my day! But, blessed Andraste… I just ask for five… don’t make those faces! Ok, I just ask for a little time for myself. I need time to awake and be ready to… interact, okay?”

“With no exceptions?” Vivienne asked, pretending innocence. Demetra and Cullen blushed, but before someone could say something embarassing, Bull shrugged again “Boss, better if you go and say your sorry. I heard Sera speaking about glue in the biscuits.”.

Thanks a million for your ask, and sorry if I’m so slooooow to answer! Busy period! Hugs!
